Why Ski Chalets Are So Popular For Families

For a British citizen, the most popular accommodation when preparing to take a winter holiday is ski chalets. La Tania and the rest of the Alpine resorts see hundreds, if not thousands, of tourists book them every winter season, the overwhelming majority of which happen to be from Britain.

Among these large numbers of people is also, traditionally, a large percentage of families or other groups. And with good reason: there are a number of factors that make it attractive for these sorts of groups to forgo other types of accommodation in favour of self-catered or catered chalets. La Tania is, furthermore, generally considered to be one of the best ‘family resorts’ in the French Alps, and it therefore stands to reason that many families would seek out accommodation there.

But why, exactly, is it this kind of accommodation is better suited for families than other types offered by ski resorts? A few speculative reasons are presented in the lines below.

Peace and quiet

One of the biggest attractions the chalets La Tania and other resorts offer, where families are concerned, is their degree of privacy. A hotel can often be a constrictive and stressful atmosphere for adults, let alone small children, whereas a cosy chalet tucked away at the side of a mountain offers a much more laid-back and homely atmosphere. This, in turn, may help improve the general mood among the younger members of the party.

Furthermore, rather than be cooped up in a hotel room, children will usually have a much larger degree of freedom to roam, and may even be lucky enough to get a room all their own, or shared only with people the same age.

More freedom

This relative degree of freedom ties into other aspects of the holiday as well. While it is important for children to have set schedules, the rigorous timings of a hotel may sometimes feel too oppressive and ‘too much like school’. The chalets La Tania and other resorts have in such high supply allow for somewhat looser time keeping, which will almost certainly be more appealing to children who want nothing more than to forget school exists!

Finally, the subject of freedom may also extend to the pistes themselves, which are much more accessible from one of the chalets than from a hotel - which will more often than not be located ‘in town’ rather than ‘on the snow’. This also allows children a higher degree of freedom to come and go as they please, which both they and their parents are likely to appreciate.
