Getting to Know the Lay of the Land in La Tania
Posted: Mar 19, 2014
If you’re heading off on a ski holiday and you want to be sure that there’s actually good snow cover in your chosen destination, you can't beat the French Alps resort of La Tania. With an altitude of about 1400 metres—with some slopes even ascending near 3000 metres—these pistes are a true skiers paradise. Not only that, but about 500 snowmaking cannons ensure at least a quarter of the pistes are constantly blanketed with snow. From any local ski chalet, La Tania’s beauty and well-planned facilities beckon. Here are a few things you can enjoy here.
Getting your Bearings
A short distance from your ski chalet, La Tania’s terrain is accessible, tempting and irresistible. There is so much variety here that it’s easy to give in to the pent-up sense of excitement and simply dive in! But if you’re a newbie, you should seek out some of the professional instructors that can be found in the resort for expert advice. Even beginners can be enjoying the powder in no time, thanks to the assistance of the resort’s two excellent ski schools: the ESF (referred to as the French ski school) and the Magic ski school. From groups to private individualised lessons, these two schools work with guests to make sure they enjoy their holiday and go home a more or less ‘accomplished skier’.
Snowboarding
Those who enjoy a certain sense of liberation with freestyle skiing or snowboarding are also well served here—the Three Valleys region has a number of pistes and parks for these activities. Just nearby you can enjoy the facilities above Courchevel or the Moon Park in Meribel. A convenient distance from your ski chalet, La Tania’s easy accessibility to these terrain parks (without the obscene resort fees of its higher-end neighbours) enables you to enjoy the best of both worlds. There's also a recently completed family-friendly park in the Verdans area, where the whole family can enjoy gliding through the trees or enjoy the fields of fine powder just below the Dou des Lanches chairs.
Cross-country Skiing
Thanks to this resort's unique location, cross-country skiing is actually as easy as stepping out of your ski chalet. La Tania’s position between Meribel and Courchevel places it on a cross-country trail that makes connecting to the trail network hassle free. All the cross-country trails are free of charge so you won’t have to worry about hidden fees to surprise you. One important caveat, however: there are downhill ski pistes that may seem to appear out of nowhere, so make sure you know where you’re going, or least have a professional from one of the resort’s resident ski schools assist you.
