Top Tips For a Top Ski Holiday

Morzine, in the French Alps, is one of Europe’s best ski resorts and is justifiably world-famous; the many excellent ski chalets in Morzine are in high-demand during the peak skiing season. Here are a few tips you might find useful to help your holiday in the snow go that bit more smoothly.

Book early

Good chalets in Morzine are plentiful, but even so, accommodation overall can be hard to find if you leave things too late. The ones that are well equipped, reasonably centrally located and attractively-priced will, unsurprisingly, go first of all. So, the moral of the tale is to book early and avoid last-minute panic, unless you really have no alternative.

Read up on the area

The resort itself is unbeatable, but it’s also part of the huge Three Valleys integrated ski area, which is one of the world’s largest. What that means is that you can move fairly easily from one resort to another, as your fancy takes you. However, to maximize the potential for doing so, it would be sensible to do some research on the entire resort in advance so you can decide which other areas appeal to you.

Choose appropriately

Yes, it sounds obvious but it’s one of those things that are easy to overlook if you’re easily swayed by those lovely photos on web sites or in brochures. This is a fairly bustling resort and, in the centre, the après-ski can be, well, ‘exciting’ at night!

That’s great if you love getting into the thick of things and joining in the party, but if you prefer a quieter life and a little solitude you might be better selecting from the chalets in Morzine that are a little further out of the centre.

Do you know your group?

Some chalets are shared accommodation and some are let out to groups. If you’re travelling with a group of friends, remember that living in close proximity to people for days or weeks on end can be very different to the odd dinner party or night out with the girls/boys. Tensions can arise and suddenly someone who was a previously a great pal can start to seem like a pain. Before choosing shared accommodation, make sure you like close proximity to strangers or if travelling with friends or family that you know you really get on with them.

Watch out for access restrictions

Not all cosy accommodations in ski resorts can be accessed directly by road in wintertime. Some involve a walk (or ski) from a central area. This isn’t likely to be a big issue for most people but it might need looking at closely in advance if you’re not fully fit or totally mobile.

Storage space

Most quality chalets will have plenty of space for things like the storage of skis and bags but there are some limits and some might be a little more ‘mignon’ than others. In fact, some might stipulate just how much baggage the typical room and associated storage areas can accommodate. It’s not really an issue typically but if you’re planning to take a lot of equipment with you to the chalets in Morzine – make sure that your choice can accommodate it.
