How to disable McAfee on your Windows or Mac Computer?

There are times when you have to disable this security solution for downloading particular software or running a particular application or for some other reason. To do so, you need to follow some steps, which are as follows:

Windows
  1. Open the start menu
  2. Type mcafee and select the McAfee LiveSafe from the search result
  3. Now click PC Security tab from the upper left corner of the McAfee window
  4. Now, click Real-Time scanning available on the left side of the McAfee screen
  5. Turn it off by clicking Turn-off button available on the upper right corner
  6. Select a time limit and then click Turn Off
  7. You can set a time for real-time scanning to reactivate in the "When do you want to resume Real-Time Scanning?" box. The default is 15 minutes
  8. For disabling McAfee until you manually turn it back on, select Never for the time limit
  9. Click Done available next to the Turn Off button
  10. Hit the Firewall tab, which is just below the Real-time scanning tab
  11. Click Turn Off
  12. Select a time limit and then click Turn Off. This will disable the McAfee Firewall until the time limit expires
  13. Exit the Firewall window
  14. Now, click the Automatic Updates
  15. Click Turn Off
  16. Exit this page and click Scheduled Scans
  17. Turn it off to disable all McAfee services
Mac
  1. Click the McAfee icon (White "M" on the red shield icon in the top-right side of your Mac's menu bar) or click the search icon in the top-right corner
  2. Type in "McAfee", and click the Internet Security option
  3. Open McAfee LiveSafe- Internet Security Console
  4. Hit the Home button available on the upper-left side of the LiveSafe window
  5. Now, click the Gear icon and then Real-Time Scanning
  6. Disable Real-Time Scanning by following these steps:
  • Click the Lock icon
  • Enter your admin password
  • Hit Ok
  • Click the Real-Time Scanning
  • Close the window
  1. Choose Firewall by clicking the Gear icon
  2. Disable McAfee firewall
  3. Now, click the Gear icon again and click Automatic Updates
  4. Disable these updates
  5. Once again, click the Gear icon
  6. Now, hit Scheduled Scans
  7. Unlock the Full Custom Scanning Setting Page
  8. Click the Gear icon, provide your admin password and click OK
  9. Click the Weekly drop-down box and hit Never
  10. Close the Window
  11. Your McAfee is now disabled
