pH is a very general term used in most of the industry as it is an important aspect of maintaining the quality of the product. But the thing is how to measure the pH of any substance and answer is very simple with the use of pH meter, one can measure pH easily.
The device will show the reading from 0 to 14 and this reading will help you in analyzing the nature of solution whether it is acidic or alkaline. If the reading is 7 in the device, then the solution is neither alkaline nor acidic, it is neutral. Whereas if reading ranges from 0 to 7 then, it shows the acidic side of the solution.
If reading is 7-14, then it shows the alkaline nature of the solution. Mainly in food processing industry, it is used for analytical measurement for measuring the acid content. It is used in food processing to avoid any health-related issue of customers, producing the product at optimal costs and with well-defined properties. Variation in pH can have very much effect on the constancy, shelf life, and flavor of the product.

The most common pH meter includes a pH electrode which acts as a small battery to generate a voltage signal which will be directly proportional to pH of the substance and solution.
The manufacturers offer many designs in electrodes to cater the need of different people and industries. The most common devices are available with any one of these 3 electrodes- Puncture electrode, ISFET nonglass electrode and conventional glass electrode.
It is a very common practice in the food industry to take the sample of from the on-going process and bring the sample to the lab for analyzing its pH value. Keep in mind that pH meters are not used only for measuring pH values of liquids but they can measure the value of solid food substance too. For semi-solid food substance, a uniquely designed pH Meter with puncture electrode is used. For example, this device plays an important role in monitoring the quality of meat, cheese, and sausage.
pH is an important factor in the processing stage of the food industry. In the dairy industry, the pH value of raw meter is checked to see the growth of bacteria as it can drop the pH value from 6.6 to 4.8. However, precautions can be taken after checking the value by pH meter to control the temperature. In cheese industry also, pH plays an important role in maintaining the quality of the product.
Monitoring and analyzing pH levels during the food processing are important steps to maintain a high-quality product. There are many chemical reactions take place during this time and pH can cause harm to your organization and customers too. For safety measures, pH meter is used in food industries.
