  • Not that painful: Laser hair removal is not totally pain free but the pain is tolerable.

  • In permanent hair removal treatment, concentrated laser beam is pointed at pigments in your hair follicles. It is converted into heat as it passes through the skin. Heat is absorbed by hair follicle thus damaging it and preventing them from growing back.

  • Permanent hair removal treatments are available all over the country now. But make sure that you choose a board certified dermatologist having an expertise in lasers.

  • It is easy to treat dark hair follicles whereas gray, white, blonde and red pigments are harder to treat. Darker skin tones are also tricky but not impossible.

  • Shave a day before appointment. Laser hair removal is not like waxing so you do not need to grow unwanted hair before you go for treatment. Do not wax at least three weeks before treatment. Waxing pulls out hair follicles that laser is supposed to target. Hence waxing can make your treatment go useless whereas shaving

  • It is recommended to stay out of sun at least four weeks before your laser hair removal treatment. You can't get this treatment if you have a tan or you are sunburned. You also need to avoid spray tans, tanning lotions and tanning beds for best results.

  • Don't expect to have silky smooth skin just after the first treatment. It takes five to six sessions to achieve the desired result. Number of sessions required for smooth skin is also dependent upon your skin type.

  • Avoid some medications: Certain photosensitive drugs can cause reactions like blisters or skin discoloration. It is advised to avoid such photosensitive oral medications before starting your treatment.

  • Give 48 hours to your body to recover from laser hair removal. Do not start any kind of workout or exercises just after the treatment. While exercising, friction of your clothes rubbing against the treated area will irritate the skin causing redness or swelling.

  • Avoid perfumes, deodorants, hot showers and saunas for 48 hours after the treatment. You can take lukewarm showers for first week.
