Of course, you come to Bermuda for its pink-sand beaches, warm, clear waters and blissful temperatures. But did you know that if you choose the right Bermuda accommodation, you’re also in for a gastronomic treat?

This is because some of the leading luxury hotels on the island have gone to great lengths to ensure that their kitchens offer the kind of world-class cuisine that you would expect from the fine dining restaurants of Europe.

Leading chefs, both local and from further afield, compete on a nightly basis to create the most delectable dishes, using only the best ingredients. To take advantage of this culinary explosion, make sure that your Bermuda accommodation has a fine-dining restaurant that’s second to none.

Here are my recommendations for Bermuda accommodation, which offer some of the best gastronomic experiences on the island.

The Waterlot Inn at the Fairmont Southampton

Set on a stunning stretch of coastland, close to the island’s capital of Hamilton, the Fairmont Southampton has no shortage of places to eat: after all, there are nine restaurants across the resort! However, if you’re looking for flagship fine-dining, definitely pay a visit to its refined Waterlot Inn.

Set in the seventeenth-century colonial home of the Bermudan Darrell family, it was converted into a restaurant at the beginning of the twentieth century. The elegant dining here is famous across the island, attracting a prestigious clientele throughout its history, including the likes of Mark Twain and Eleanor Roosevelt.

The exquisite dishes that are served in the traditional dining room, which features views out over the ocean, include steaks that are cooked to perfection and freshly caught seafood from the waters beyond the hotel.

Coconuts at the Reefs Hotel & Club Suites

The Reefs Hotel is a great choice of Bermuda accommodation, thanks to its secluded location, stunning infinity pool and beautiful private beach. But what draws many of my clients back again and again is the excellent food that’s served at its Coconuts restaurant.

Local cuisine is given a fine-dining twist here: think South Shore Bermuda Fish Chowder and pan-seared rockfish fillet with lobster potatoes. The fresh seafood can be enjoyed whilst looking out over the stunning ocean from the restaurant’s beautiful elevated position.

The Point Restaurant at the Rosewood Bermuda

With the island’s largest private beach, this hotel is a must for sun worshippers (or for those who enjoy a romantic stroll along a deserted stretch of sand at the end of the day). There’s also a golf course, spa and, of course, one of the best restaurants on the island.

The Point Restaurant and Terrace is as famous for its stunning ocean views as it is for its excellent fine-dining cuisine. Enjoy the beautiful murals by the artist Gerard Henderson as you savour innovative, creative dishes that are made from fresh, local ingredients. For a real gastronomic adventure, be sure to try executive chef Gerry Adams’ ten-course degustation menu.

Whichever Bermuda accommodation you choose, take the time to travel the island to scope out some of these excellent eateries and discover the culinary treasures on offer.
