We all know that feeling of working for weeks on end and the need to get away for a long extended weekend from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you live in Pune, then consider yourself lucky because there are plenty of options around the city for a quick getaway that will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated in no time. So, rent a cab in Pune and start your journey of fun and exploration.

1. Kolad

If you are one of those who loves water and all activities related to it, then you should make a beeline to Kolad as soon as possible. Located on the Mumbai-Panvel-Goa route, Kolad is just 140km from Pune, which translates into a two-hour journey. Kolad is considered as one of the best places to go white water rafting in the country. Also peppered with spectacular trekking trails that are dotted with waterfalls, you can stay at the camping site as you explore the Sahyadri range and detox from the big city life.

2. Satara

One of the best places for any photography enthusiast, the picturesque landscape of the 1,000 hectare Kaas plateau is a sight to behold. The Ajinkyatara Fort overlooks this plateau and provides dramatic views of the area around it. Satara also has the Pateshwar temple which has 8 caves and houses over a thousand shivlings. So, dust off the DSLR and head to Satara which is only 112km from Pune.

3. Murud Janjira

The Murud Janjira fort is one of the most unique and beautiful forts in the country and is about 160km from Pune. It is an island fort situated off the coast of Murud, and is one of the strongest forts. It withstood the advances of the Portuguese, Marathas and the East India Company. You can access the fort via a short boat ride from a small village on the coast of Rajapuri. On the shore is the Palace of the Nawabs of Janjira which is well maintained and offers panoramic views of the fort and ocean due to its location which is on top of a cliff.

4. Lonar Lake

The Lonar Lake is the only one of its kind on earth. Formed due to the impact of a meteorite, the saline soda lake is located at Buldhana in Maharashtra. One of the most interesting aspects of the lake is that it is surrounded by a ring of trees on its outer edge. Each ring is composed entirely of one species. The lake is located 390km from Pune and will make the perfect weekend getaway for any nature enthusiast.

Other places near Pune for quick getaways include Tamhini Ghat and Ahmednagar. Tamhini Ghat is a wondrous collection of valleys and waterfalls in the mountainous Ghats of Maharashtra. Ahmednagar is famous for its fort and museums. Book a taxi in Pune to reach these places for a convenient and hassle-free experience.
