Vivah Panchami- the divine wedding of Lord Rama & Mother Sita
Vivah Panchami is the sacred festival celebrating the divine wedding of Lord Rama and Mother Sita. This festival is celebrated by devotees of Lord Rama all across the world. Vivah Panchami falls on the fifth day of the bright lunar fortnight in the month of Margashirsha. This day marks the ceremonial wedding anniversary of Sri Rama and Sita Devi. Reason behind Vivah Panchami
Lord Rama, the eldest son of King of Ayodhya-Dasharatha & he is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to Ramayana, Sage Vishwamitra called upon King Dasharatha and told him that his yagnas were being disturbed by demons. Sage Vishwamitra requests the King Dasharatha to send his sons Lord Rama and Lakshmanan to his place as only they can destroy the demons and conduct the yagnas peacefully. Lord Rama and His brother destroyed all the demons and helped him in conducting the yagnas and other sacred rituals. Then Sage Vishwamitra took the princes of Ayodhya to Mithila. King of Mithila- Janaka held a Swayamvara ceremony for his beloved daughter- Sita. Many princes participated in the Swayamvara to win the heart of Sita Devi. King Janaka challenged all the princes to lift the bow of Lord Shiva and string it. While all the assembled princes failed, Lord Rama lifted the bow and tried to string it while attempting to string the bow; Lord Rama broke the bow of Lord Shiva. King of Mithila conducted the wedding ceremony of Lord Rama and Sita. This divine wedding ceremony of Lord Rama and Sita Devi has been celebrating on Vivah Panchami every year.
