Pushkar is one of the ancient cities of India. Situated towards the north of Ajmer district, this tranquil city is a preferred destination for thousands of pilgrims and devotees coming to Rajasthan. 510 meters above the sea level, Pushkar city is surrounded by hills on three of its sides. There is a natural border between Pushkar and Ajmer in the form of a mountain known as ‘Nag Pahar’ this translates to Snake Mountain. Pushkar is also popular by the name ‘Rose garden of Rajasthan. High quality rose essence is exported to all over the world from Pushkar. Not just its interesting mythological history but also a legacy of Pushkar’s timeless heritage of architecture which makes Pushkar such a fascinating city. If mythology is to be believed, Pushkar was formed when Lord Brahma dropped a lotus on the ground which resulted in a creation of lake immediately. Hence, he named the place after the flower and since then the place is known as Pushkar. Interesting, isn’t it? Hard to believe the fact but the city of Pushkar is the home to the one and only temple where Lord Brahma is worshipped. Therefore, Pushkar holds an extreme importance in Hindu religion and Hindus believe that one cannot attain salvation without undertaking this ultimate pilgrimage to Pushkar.

October and November are the most appropriate time to visit Pushkar. The major point of attraction in Pushkar is the Annual Pushkar Camel Fair which is a 5-day event which begins in the last week of October. In the presence of 500,000 people and more than 50,000 camels, Pushkar Mela is the world’s largest cattle fair. Apart from livestock buying and selling, there are many other things to witness in the fair such as ‘matka phod competition’, ‘longest moustache competition’ and ‘bridal competition’. Recently, another event has been added to the event which is a football match between the local Pushkar Football team and the foreign tourists.

After a long tiring day of Pushkar site seeing, the city offers you world class resorts which guarantees a luxurious stay and comfort.
