Finding the Right Mattress to Suit You
Posted: Dec 10, 2017
There is a mind-boggling array of options when it comes to choosing a mattress. This guide is here to help you understand all the terminology and help you to understand the options available allowing you to choose the mattress to suit your circumstances. You can either choose a mattress with springs or without springs.
Mattress with Springs
Open coil mattresses are the type we are most familiar with, it is a basic springing system. The best box springs are joined by a spiral wire. This type gives a firmer feel to the mattress
Pocket sprung mattresses feature individually housed fabric pockets for each spring giving a more comfortable bed than an open coil. The pocket sprung mattress will change to the user's body shape offering a more supportive and comfortable option.
The cheapest mattresses are produced with a standard tension, while it may save you money you may be giving up a good night’s sleep. These beds are produced on a standard tension which might not be ideal for you. As you move into higher price ranges you can get the choice of the type of tension for your mattress, soft, medium or firm.
Springless Mattresses
Improvements in mattress technology mean it is possible to have a mattress without springs. There are three main types:
Visco-elastic – This high technology mattress contains millions of tiny window-like cells which react to heat and pressure to mould the entire body without putting pressure back on the occupant. The result is less pressure and more support giving a great night sleep. One other fantastic feature is the product is resistant to house dust mites benefiting all especially allergy sufferers.
Talalay Latex – This mattress will also mould to the body and is made from an elastic material. This material is also resistant to dust mites as well as anti-fungal.
Polyurethane foams – This is the low-cost option of the springless mattresses. The performance will vary depending on the density of the foam in the mattress. This guide should give you a better idea of the mattresses available and help you to choose the best one that suits your circumstances. Sleep well!
