First developed as a supply station for Dutch ships by the Dutch East India Company, Cape Town is a coastal city and capital of the Western Cape province in South Africa. It attracts tourists from different corners of the globe with its charming harbour and some world-famous places. With plenty of immigrants and expatriates living in the city, it has become one of the world's most multicultural cities. It was named by the Daily Telegraph and New York Times as the best place in the world to visit in the year 2014. You can make your time spent in this South African city memorable by exploring its popular attractions:

1. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront: Some tourists are reminded of the Fisherman's Wharf of San Francisco when they arrive at this place. This entertainment quarter stretches around two harbour basins and is always buzzing with activity. While enjoying your Cape Town holidays, you can visit the restaurants, shops, hotels, theatres, jazz venues, museums, or cinemas in this part of the city.

  1. Table Mountain: The most photographed landmark of South Africa, this flat-topped mountain is situated within the Table Mountain National Park. While exploring the national park, you would come across diverse species of plants and animals. Upon getting to the mountain's summit, you can enjoy spectacular views of the entire city and Cape Peninsula.
  2. Clifton and Camps Bay beaches: These beaches are a favourite with both locals as well as tourists who like to enjoy the best of sun, sand, and sea. Your Cape Town holiday packages would give you the opportunity to visit these beaches and indulge in some people-watching while taking a walk on the palm-lined stretch of the Camps Bay beach. You can also find some stylish cafes and boutiques on Victoria Street nearby.
  3. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens: Don't forget to visit this part of the Cape Floristic Region located in the eastern part of the Table Mountain. Established in the year 1913 to preserve the nation's flora, the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens has over 20,000 indigenous South African plant species spread over a vast area of 528 hectares. During your time spent in this part of Cape Town, you can visit the Sculpture Garden and a custom-built greenhouse called Botanical Society Conservatory.
  4. Chapman's Peak Drive: Also called 'Chappies' by the local population, this is one of the world's most awe-inspiring driving routes. While driving through this route during your cheap Cape Town holidays, you can witness some fascinating sights. This is a popular location for TV commercials and is used for two of the city’s renowned events, namely Two Oceans Marathon and Cape Argus Cycle Race.
  5. City Hall and the Castle of Good Hope: These two historic buildings attract tourists interested in the history of Cape Town. The City Hall was built in the year 1905 with a mix of British and Italian architectural styles. Upon getting inside this building, you will find beautiful mosaic floors, stained glass and a marble staircase. Built during the seventeenth century, the Castle of Good Hope is the oldest stone building in South Africa. It served as the Governor's residence and provided protection for the early settlers.
