North Sikkim
Most of the places in Sikkim experiences snowfall. The snowfall in Sikkim starts somewhere between October to December. Well, also there are some places in Sikkim where you will get to see snow throughout the year, like Nathula and Yumthang. Plan in advance and also gather a little information before you leave as some of the routes could be blocked due to heavy snowfall.
Ladakh
Ladakh is place in India where one can see snow throughout the year. Well, the best time to visit Ladakh is between January and February, at that point of time you can experience the Chadar trek, one of the most famous trek in India. This trek is best in winters as that’s when the river Zanskar river freeze up. This trek is extremely challenging as it follows the path of the frozen river. Ladakh is clearly the best place to experience snowfall.
Auli
Auli is no less than a wonderland of India in winters. This place is famous for it’s snow clad slopes and hence for skiing. If lucky enough you’ll get a chance to witness the skiing competition which usually take place here in winters. The next two places you must visit when you are Auli are the Nanda Devi and Mana Parvat, these are the two iconic peaks in the Himalayan mountain range. Make sure you get here in between January to March to enjoy winters at it’s best.
Patnitop
This place is really famous for it’s natural surroundings, which includes the serene Chenab river and the dense deodar and pine forests. Patnitop is nestled in Udahampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. This place is one of the most known place for paragliding. Can you imagine looking down to white, snowy paradise, an experience worth going for. The best time to get down to this place is between December to March and if you are going specially for paragliding then you will have to check the availability beforehand.
Shimla
Shimla is one of the most commercialized hill stations in North India. Shimla becomes much more beautiful when it snows and it is of course beautiful throughout the year when it doesn’t snow. Well, the best time to visit Shimla is in the month of December and January. You are sure to find remnants of colonial architecture here as this place was the summer capital to British India.
Well, this goes without saying but be sure to shop and carry some warm clothes for the trip as temperature here tens to drop to single digit and can be zero, sometimes! So plan nicely and also do a little research of the place you are going to chose to experience the beauty of winters, Snow!
