School Discipline

In school education, discipline is a set of rules and regulations that remind students of the proper code of behaviour. Discipline in school promotes moral behaviour, acts as a guideline for ethical decision making, enhances the reputation of any organization/ school, prevents negative effects, encourages positive relationships, acts as a reference for solving ethical dilemmas and prevents discrimination or harassment.

Student’s Rule and Regulations

At a younger age, children have a tender mind that does not know what is right or wrong. They need constant supervision and guidance from elders; otherwise, he/she can go towards the wrong path. Therefore a set of rules and regulation is set in the school for all students.

A typical set of school rules begins with an outline of rights and responsibilities for both the students and the faculty. It then lists different rules (often categorized at different levels of severity) and prescribes appropriate disciplinary measures. It also explains the right to appeal any disciplinary action taken.

Student’s rules and regulations are designed to serve both the classroom learning and the individual. They outline students' rights, ensuring that no student will be penalized or singled out based on anything, but just on a violation of established rules. They also outline students' responsibilities, thus letting individual students know that they need to meet certain standards for their own sake and that of the entire school. Moreover, most rules are written with enough flexibility to allow teachers some leeway when choosing a disciplinary action.

Through the school’s discipline code, the entire school community commits itself in creating a culture and atmosphere in the school that fosters desirable behaviour, discourages misconduct and promotes a path that is conducive to effective teaching and learning.

There are many factors that play an important role in making a school a successful body. And ‘school discipline’ is no less important, because apart from qualifications, and higher degree, it’s the student’s behaviour that reflects the image of the school.

Lastly, we can also say that students are like water and discipline in schools is like the walls of a canal. Water will flow well if the walls of the canal are strong. Similarly, students will do better in life if the discipline in their schools is appropriate and strict. Therefore, discipline in school is really important for the betterment of student’s life.
