Step 1 – Access your HP printer and directly produce a test print. The process of printing a test document will differ from model to model, that’s why you may require checking the user guide that supplied with your printer. If you’re using the network HP printer, then navigate to the ‘Information’ menu on the printer’s Control Panel and select the ‘Print Configuration’ option to print a test page. In case of the desktop printer, you can start printing a test page by pressing and holding the power button until the document starts to publish. If you’re able to print a test document from your HP printer, but not the PC, it’s possible that there is the connection issue between your printer and the computer.

Step 2 – Disconnect your printer cord from the back of your HP printer and your PC. Once the USB cable has been disconnected, check that it’s not damaged or broken. If it’s not, attach the cable back into appropriate ports, ensuring that the cable is tightly inserted. If your HP printer works with the parallel cord, make sure that it’s entirely placed on the back of your printer and the computer. If you’re using the USB cable for your HP printer, ensure that it’s firmly connected to the port on your PC and that the wires’ square end is connected to your printer.

Step 3 – Power off your HP printer and start your PC again. Click the Windows Start button on your computer and select the Control Panel via the menu. Click the ‘Printers and Faxes’ icon twice, find your HP printer and right-click on it. Select the ‘Properties’ tab from the menu, and then click the ‘Print Test page’ option to take a test print to your printer. This is the most helpful way to get rid of the connection issues between your printer and the PC.

Step 4 – Find the Network Interface Card on your network HP printer to make sure if there’s a real connection between the network and your printer. You should also check the flashing green light on the card. If the light is red or amber, or there is no light, your printer might not be able to communicate with your PC. To check the network connection, disconnect the network cord from both the network port and the network cable on the wall, and then reconnect the cable and test the connection again. If the problem exists, it’s possible that the network cable of your printer is required being replaced.
