There are many people in this century who are turning vegan. And the basic definition of vegan or veganism refers to not using animal products in diet. Anyone who follows this particular philosophy and rejects the commodity status of animals is known as vegan. Yogurt and milk kefir both are products derived from dairy milk. They both have yeast or bacteria as starter and both of the products are fermented beverages from milk. The Milk kefir usually is a creamy texture and a light foamy impression that also contains natural carbonation. And yogurt is usually a thicker substance.

Kefir and yogurt have distinct tastes because of the different bacteria used as starters. But the process of making them is same. And it involves the conversion of lactose to lactic acid. Both the products have innumerable health benefits and are filled with probiotics. They can help you look younger, did you know that? Yes, they slow down the aging process of cells and hence help you look younger. They are amazing for your skin and hair, digestive system, cholesterol reduction and promote weight loss. No wonder they are called super food!

Honestly, there is no actual vegan alternative to yogurt and kefir but those are vegan cannot stop seeking and hence there are variations of kefir and yogurt which are made from nut milks such as almond milk o soy milk. Now the kefir grains that are kefir starter and the yogurt starter for milk and nut milks or water are different. Yes, water kefir can be made with plain water -yogurt not.

You can make vegan water kefir by taking as pure water as possible and some fruits. Add the kefir grains and sweetener and let it breathe for overnight but make sure you chose a breathable fabric and the taste of the kefir has to be a nice combination of sweet and tangy. Otherwise it is not done right. Oh! You must try the coconut water kefir definitely. It is a wonder elixir and can be made in the same way.

Vegan yogurt can be made in similar process and by choosing milk which is plant derived like soy milk, coconut milk and etc. Yogurt is probably one thing that vegans really miss and hence you can see the number of vegan yogurt brands in market place. Both vegan yogurt and vegan kefir can be made at home and guess what? It can absolutely be made in your taste. So go on and make some of the wonder elixirs!
