India may be a developing nation, but it is definitely not a country as portrayed in Slumdog Millionaire, the movie that bagged dozens of awards. Let us not indulge into the debate of what the present state of India is, but just talk about the myths about the country that need to be shattered immediately.

The Indians are poor yet happy

Most movies based on India, especially the ones made by foreign producers, depict the natives of the country as badly off however in high spirits about life. They forget to mention that the poor exist in India along with the middle class and the rich sections of the society. Moreover, the upper-middle-class people are emerging as the major fragment of the urban population. Yes, Indians can definitely get offensive when you presume that they belong to a low-income family.

All Indians belong to IT sector

People abroad have made a perception about Indians over the year that the entire populace is an IT expert. On the contrary, Indians have showcased their diverse pool of talent on the international platform. Whether it is politics, movies, entertainment, dance, fine arts, or literature, people from India have left their mark in every domain.

Indian food is spicy

The Indian food, just like its people, is highly diverse. The taste and texture of cuisines change after every few kilometers in the country. As the people of different cultures change their way of clothing, so do they alter their method of preparing their local cuisines. The entire nation can countless of dishes. The Indian foods at their best are not spicy but flavorful with a variety of spices available in the country.

The arranged marriages are the only way of marrying

Yes, even now when the entire world is going gaga over love marriages, Indians still keep faith in arranged marriages. However, the Indian parents do not restrict their kids to arranged marriages only; they let their children choose their spouse if they find someone. The love marriages do happen more often in India than before, still, the adults like their parents to choose their partner for them.

All Indians know Yoga

Indians are definitely good at a lot of things, including Yoga, but not the entire population practices it. You cannot expect every Indian you come across to be adept at twisting their bones. Not many people have supple bones in their body; you might get disappointed at the revelation if you expect to learn yoga from everyone you meet.

All Indians are vegetarians

This is a stereotype that the foreigners have about Indians. Yes, India has a history of worshipping cow and having vegetarian food, but the people are equally fond of non-vegetarian food as well. You can easily find people who love to eat eggs and meat from various animals and birds. There is an equal number of vegetarians and a growing number of vegans as well. The Punjabi flavors of Chicken Malai Tikka, Kebabs, and Soya Chaap are famous all over the world.

Indians travel only in overcrowded trains and buses

Yes, the pictures revealing congested trains, buses, and metros are truthful. However, these pictures depict only the peak office hours and festival days. Usually, the public transport is not very crowded, and you can travel quite comfortably in the urban transportation. Nevertheless, you can always use car rental apps to book a Self-Drive car for added convenience to travel all around the country.

India is a hot country

India, just like other countries, welcomes all seasons with open arms. The country is not hot throughout the year, but it is just a couple of months that require protection from the harmful sun. You can experience the delightful springs, chilled winters, and pleasant rains along with the hot summers in a year. The hill stations all around the country remain pleasant all through the year.
