1. Theory first, Practical sums next

2. Learn maths, do not mug up the formulae

Mugging up the formulae in mathematics won't help you in any way! Maths is a subject that requires application and you can apply a concept only if you have a good grip on the subject. So don't make the mistake of mugging up formulae and expecting to solve every problem. It won't happen unless you've understood the application and the purpose of the formulae.
