Of course, you’re going to be a well-trained professional after your MBA. And of course, it is going to be way easier for you to adapt to any workplace environment. But there are certain interpersonal skills you might as well start working on right now, even if you’re not an MBA student yet. This makes sure you are on the right track even before starting your course and you can polish your skills all along the way to your degree. Here are a few skills and ways you can incorporate them to have better interpersonal skills even before you start your MBA course:

Seeking feedback :

It is not easy to listen to people when they criticize you. However, you need to learn to look at criticism in a positive light - it is an important part of growing, and learning from others about yourself. You might not always know about certain aspects of your own personality that someone else might be very well aware of. Talking to people about these things, actively seeking feedback and working on it will give you a positive outlook on criticism and increase your self awareness. For example, if you’re doing an MBA in International Business, you probably need to have excellent cultural awareness, which requires you to be sensitive and self-aware, even under high pressure.

Cultural awareness :

In most cases your company will deal with people of various backgrounds. This means having sensitivity not only towards your colleagues but other cultures in general. For example, if you pursue an MBA in Agribusiness management, you would have to have knowledge about different communities and different socioeconomic groups. This means opening up to people, identifying and interacting with people from different backgrounds and learning to be sensitive towards all cultures.

Motivation :

Needless to say, motivation is one of the most crucial tools an MBA graduate should have. Apart from keeping the team or company motivated, you need to keep yourself motivated too. You may not need motivation right now, but you never know when you will and how often that will be. For this, you may want to create a personalized plan that works for yourself and start implementing it one step at a time. One of the simplest and fastest ways to do this is to start having to-do notes and striking out every time you complete a task. To take this further, you can indulge yourself in little treats every time you complete a task.
