Business owners so far have worked within the close proximity of their establishments with limited means of success. Internet changed all that and allowed owners to take their business from a real front to an online front giving access to unlimited means to grow and prosper.

To establish a business online, owners must choose an E-Commerce platform to lay their foundations on.

If you are in the e-commerce industry, you must have come face to face yourself with this mind-boggling question, Magento or Woocommerce? Which is best for me? What if I made a choice only to regret it at a later stage?

Well, don’t worry.

We are here to shed light on this widely debated issue and help you make a better choice for your business.

In order to help make a decision which is better, let’s first understand what.

Magento and Woocommerce basically are open source software whose initial products are free to use where one is an e-commerce platform in itself and the other works as a plugin for WordPress (which is another e-commerce platform).

Though both provide a foundation to build your empire on, there is a vast difference in their workings:

  1. The first and major difference lies in their core product itself where Magento is a corporate level platform custom-made keeping large online stores in mind making it ideal for those with high goals whereas Woocommerce is a plugin which needs WordPress as its host platform to work on which is mostly popular among beginners with limited stock.
  2. If you look at the popularity ratio itself, Magento clearly leads with hosting over 2,50,000 websites in comparison to Woocommerce which is currently hosting approx. 2,00,000 sites.
  3. Another difference which gives Magento Development platform an edge over Woocommerce plugin is their community version which provides a self-host whereas Woocommerce requires you to find your own web host.
  4. In terms of security, Woocommerce provides SSL or Secure Sockets Layer which is basically a standard technology in comparison to Magento which provides advanced level security along with dedicated patches to fix any vulnerabilities with various updates available.
  5. Magento gives you another advantage by allowing you to cross-sell or up-sell products, compare them or assign discount codes to them which Woocommerce don’t due to its limited storage.
  6. Woocommerce, as I mentioned earlier, works well with beginners with limited stock providing limited functionalities but once your business starts growing it needs an alternative whereas Magento gives you the freedom to upload unlimited products (from china plates to tomatoes) with as much specifications as you want.
  7. In addition, Magento lets you handle multiple stores from a single administrative panel which is also extremely user-friendly whereas in Woocommerce simply won’t allow you to keep multiple stores let alone handle them from one place.

Magento and Woocommerce both have their pros and cons if you look at them independently, where one was designed for start-ups and small businesses and the other keeping large corporations in mind. It depends entirely on the user’s requirement and what are his plans in the long run.

But if you compare Magento and Woocommerce, then Magento is the clear winner. Forget all the above points, just its flexibility to expand according to the business gives it an edge hard to surpass.

After all, there’s a reason corporate giants such as Coca-Cola, Ford, Fox Connect have chosen Magento Development Company to host their websites.
