The sky’s the limit when it comes to being creative with interior design.

From houseplants to sample newspapers and hangers (!), interior designers and amateurs use anything and everything to decorate their homes.

Perhaps the most popular item for decorating so far though, is antique dinner sets.

More than just dinnerware, antique china and dishes are considered to be one of the more elegant tools for decoration. All you need to do is hang them in a visually appealing way on your wall, and you have a focus of a room that’s not only unique but also creative!

Displaying Dinner Sets Creatively in Your Home Rooms, Themes and Palettes

Usually, people display dinnerware in their dining rooms, kitchen and living rooms, since it creates a flow in design. In other words, a connection of the dinnerware with the setting it’s in.

Before you start buying dishes for decoration, take the colour palette of the room into account. You can go in contrast to the palette of the room, or incorporate the plates within the same colour theme.

In any case though, try to use plates that complement the design aesthetic of the room. Antique plates with an English china pattern will not go well with a modern, minimal-style room.

After all, the dishes are going to be the focal point, use a pattern that enhances the surroundings, rather than clashes with them. If you’re going in contrast with the room setting, go for high-contrasting patterns and colours. If you want them to blend with the décor, stick to a neutral tone.

If you have more surface area to experiment with, get a wall collage. Choose dishes of different sizes, shapes and variety. Before hanging them on the wall, take each dish and consider how each would fit with one another. Get dishes that share a similar geometric shape, or a colour shade. If your surroundings are one-tone (for example, white), go all out and use dishes of different vibrant colours and create a beautiful gallery of dishes on your wall.

Cabinets, Shelves or Hanging?

All three options are beautiful, but each has its limit. For example, cabinets might defeat the purpose of displaying them, since many display cabinets often have decorative designs on the glass. Clear or custom-designed cabinets might be too expensive.

Open shelves or hanging is the best option. With open shelving, your dinner set would be on display at all times, and you’ll have to keep an eye on keeping them clean otherwise their look will diminish.

Use decorative plate racks or dinner set display stands to ensure that they’re safely displayed and aren’t at risk of falling if something bumps into them. You can buy premium-quality display and rack stands from Plate Stands of Australia.

Beautiful dinnerware deserves to have a stage of its own. Play with the colours and use these small decorative pieces to make your home interior look even more aesthetically pleasing and welcoming!
