Canyoning in São Jorge

Canyoning consists on a descent of a water course (usually embedded and with steep slopes) on foot or by swimming, resorting to abseiling, jumps and slides to overcome the obstacles. The canyoning activities take place in properly equipped streams. The RAPPEL CHALLENGER is an adventure course in a river without water where, in order to overcome obstacles, we will walk resort to abseiling.

São Jorge island is by far one of the Azorean islands with excellent quality canyoning são jorge guaranteed to offer the participants wonderful landscapes where, among other features, we highlight the many beautiful waterfalls where participants will have a real and unforgettable contact with nature and the freshness of the island of São Jorge.

Before the activity begins the participants will be provided with the necessary information as well as a small training, followed by the equipment usage rules, essential conditions to ensure safety and a brief description of the training and work experience of the monitors and their collaborators.

Difficulty: Baptism and Rappel Challenger have reduced technical requirements. The advanced canyoning açores is for those with some technical experience in canyoning

Duration: Ranges between 4 to 6h

Season of the Activity: All year (subject to changes due to weather conditions)

Includes: Guides, Liability and Personal Accident Insurances, Transfers, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)* and Snack**

Maximum Pax limit: Up to 6 people

Minimum Age: 8 years (Rappel Challenger) and 15 years (Canyoning)

Note: The equipment of the participants responsibility should be the following:

  • Bathing suit/shorts and towel;
  • Mountain boots or waterproof boots;
  • A change of clothes and shoes for after the activity.

*PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for Canyoning involves: helmets, harnesses, ropes, carabiners, eights, slings, maillons, cowstails, wetsuits and other accessories. For the Rappel Challenger involves: helmets, harnesses, ropes, carabiners, eights, slings, maillons, cowstails and other accessories. All of the PPE meet the standards required by the EC (European Commission) and the UIAA (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation).

  • Snack: Includes a sandwich, one juice, one bottled water, once chocolate and one piece of fruit. In case someone is vegetarian and/or allergic to any component, please inform the Company.
