Do you want to adopt greener practices in discarding wastes and ensure that most of the junk items thrown by you get recycled? In Calgary, dump removal service providers can help you and your community to participate in recycling projects.

To begin with the task however, it is good to be aware of the basic do-s and don’t-s of recycling. Here’s a list to help you:

Do

Send paper with staples and envelopes with plastic sheet windows for recycling.

The staples and plastic parts can be eliminated before the recycling process.

Remove lids from plastic bottles, jars and juice cartons so that they can be properly crushed for the recycling work.

Keep the lids of metal cans attached but fold them into the can to prevent the exposure of their sharp edges.

Rinse the aluminum containers and pie plates before sending them to a recycling plant and also ensure that they are dry so that they do not saturate other things in the bin.

Continue to support the process by buying products made from recycled material – these could be comic books, magazines, plastic containers, shopping bags and more such items.

Don’t

Attempt to get broken glass recycled. This also includes broken mirrors and ceramic crockery – such materials must be discarded into the waste bin. This is because even a little bit of wrong glass put into the recycling bin can spoil the whole batch of good glass.

Send pizza boxes, other cardboard packing soiled with grease and coffee cups for recycling because the oil sticking on to this paper renders it unfit for the process.

Toss all kinds of plastic bottles, jars and boxes into the recycling materials bin – only plastic numbered one, two, four, or five are accepted by most recycling companies.

Put your materials for recycling in a plastic bag as this can contaminate all the items being sent for recycling – the plastic bags can only be recycled at certain collection spots and a little online research will help you find a spot closest to your home.

Recycling is not as simple as most people think it to be. To ensure that something useful and harmless is made out of recycled materials, the companies involved in the process have to be selective about the items.

In an ideal world only garbage will go into the trash bag and the things that can be recycled, reused will be systematically put into the recycling bin. You cannot even afford to put one unsuitable item in the container for recycling because it will spoil all other things to be recycled.

Another way to ensure that minimum trash goes into landfills is to start using kitchen and garden waste - such and dried leaves and grass - for making compost. This is done by mixing moist and dry items in alternate layers. Talk to your neighborhood recycling company for more information on the subject and keep contributing to the cause for greener and cleaner environmental practices.
