Winter season is just like a harsh punishment for asthma patients. It is because symptoms of asthma flare up or get aggravated when asthma patients are exposed to cold weather conditions. It is due to chilly and cold winds that blow and enter the lungs of the patients through airways. This cold air first triggers common cold and then leads to appearance of asthma symptoms. The dryness in the air due to cold weather conditions is responsible for worsening the symptoms of asthma. Though most patients use certain medicines such as Baba Ramdev asthma medicine however there are some natural ways that may help patients to keep a tab over asthma symptoms. Here are some of the most effective ways that may be opted for by the patients so as to keep themselves protected against asthma attacks.

  1. Since asthma triggers are stimulated due to occurrence of cold therefore it is better to stay protected against attack of viruses or other microbes causing such infections. For this, you must keep yourself neat and clean. Also make sure that you wash your hands frequently. Using a sanitizer is perhaps a handy option in this regard. It keeps your hands germ-free. This in turn keeps the infections responsible for causing cold and in turn asthma attacks at bay.

  2. In order to remain completely protected against attack of asthma symptoms, you may prefer getting an annual shot of flu virus. The injectible form of flu virus is the best option in this respect. It offers complete safety and protection against asthma attacks. Also you must get vaccinated for pneumonia well-in-advance.

  3. When you go out in the cold weather conditions then you have to breathe in cold air. And this cold air is not at all good for your lungs. To protect your lungs against attack of this cold air, you must keep your mouth closed. It is because you can breathe through your nose by keeping your mouth closed. By breathing through the nose, the air that is inhaled by you is warmed up. This in turn protects your lungs from the attack of cold air. Covering your mouth and nose with a muffler or mask is also a good option in this respect.

  4. In winters, asthma patients must avoid sitting by the fire place or other modes of heating. It is because smoke or hazardous gases being emitted from these heating sources are again hazardous for the health of your lungs.

  5. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated even during winters. It is because dryness in the nasal passages may result in inflammation. This in turn starts causing problems in breathing. Thus asthma symptoms get flared up.

  6. Thinking it to be cold season you shouldn’t give up exercising. Rather you must keep on with your exercise schedule. Always make sure that you just get warmed up before you start your exercise. Also you must exercise only indoors. It helps in protecting your body and particularly the lungs against the attack of cold air.

This way asthma patients may manage and keep asthma attacks at bay during winter season.
