Langtang Tilman Pass Trek is one of highly acclaimed, remote and wilderness trekking in Nepal. Located far in Upper Langtang region, it is one of high altitude trek in Nepal straddling its border to Tibetan Plateau. Trekking to Tilman Pass offers the best view of Langsisha glacier, five sacred lakes of Panch Pokhari and extremely remote Jugal Himal. Likewise, this region is home to numerous highland wildlife including blue sheep and the red panda. The rugged trekking trail of Tilman Pass cuts high into the cliff sides and pass quaint villages that have changed little over the centuries.
The less-crowded route of Langtang Tilman Pass is suitable for those who have keen desire to experience beaten-off trail and enjoy the untamed nature in the remote area. The region is famous for impressive view of Himalayan vistas including Langtang, Gaurishankar and Rolwaling Himalayan ranges. Langtang Tilman Pass Trek connects you with two different Himalayan region – Langtang and Panch Pokhari (five holy lake). Langtang Lirung, Langtang Himal, Naya Kanga, Yala Peak, Ganesh Himal, Langshisa, Gaurishanker and Dorjelakpa are common Himalayan peaks seen during the trek.
Langtang Tilman Pass trip begins with a scenic and adventurous drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubensi, the popular trekking trail in Langtang region. We follow the main Langtang trail and soon the gigantic Langtang Lirung comes into view. The trekking trail continues through the Langtang valley and lush gorge of Langtang Khola. You will encounter the mix forest of rhododendron and moss-hung pine trees and occasional yaks trundling down pasture on their way home as well. Keep an eye out for Blue Poppy flowers, herds of langur monkeys and magnificent Impeyan pheasant, the national bird of Nepal.
We pass Langtang village and Kyangjin Gompa to follow the less-trodden path to Tilman Pass base camp. Tilman Pass at 5360m is quite technical and the pass remains closed due to snow, so local enquiries about the condition, favorable weather and good equipment is necessary to cross the pass safely.
Physical Fitness & Experience Requirement for Trekking
Langtang Tilman Pass Trek is perfect for passionate walkers who have ability to walk for 7-8 hours in remote mountain terrain with a light rucksack. As climbing Tilman Pass is technical, trekkers must acquire basic skills of using climbing gears. Previous mountain experience would be an asset but not mandatory. Our experience and professional will accompany you to make your Tilman Pass trip safe and successful.
Best Season for Langtang Tilman Pass TrekThe best time to travel Langtang Tilman Pass are (September to November) during autumn and (March to May) during spring. The weather during these seasons is clear and warm with outstanding views.
Note: Langtang region was badly affected by the earthquake in 2015. Several trail routes and teahouses were collapsed but the restoration was made immediately. Now it is safe to travel than before. Trekkers have started visiting the area and we think visiting the Langtang region helps them recover.
