There are some restrictions on some of this content, as games have a rating system in place to decide which games are appropriate for what ages. if you need help deciding which games are right for you and your family, then keep reading.

Be aware of ESRB ratings. Just like movies, video games come with ratings. These ratings let you know the intended audience for the game you are about to play. If you are buying video games for a minor, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the rating and warning system.

If you are gifting a game to a child, make sure they have given you several options of what they will want. There are a lot of factors that go into determining whether a game is age appropriate, and if you only have one title on your list, you may go out to buy it only to find that it isn't the right purchase.

Before purchasing a new game, you may try downloading a demo version beforehand. This preview can help you determine whether you want to purchase the full version of the game or not. Use caution when downloading anything though. Only download from verified or trustworthy sites.

If you are playing a sporting game, and you don't have any experience with it, set the difficulty level to rookie. This will help you pick up on the unique features of the game and learn your way around the field. If you set it higher than that, you are likely to get frustrated and not have any fun.

If you are having difficulty seeing a game while you are playing it, try adjusting the brightness setting. This should make the screen appear crisp, enhancing your gaming experience. And let's face it, you will not achieve any kind of success if you can't see what you are doing, so make the game work for you.

Save your game as much as you can. While auto-saving is a great feature, don't rely on it. Particularly, when you first start playing a game, you may have no idea when the game saves, which could lead to a loss of important data later on. Until you understand the game better, always save yourself.

For young children, it is best to disable the chat feature on games. No younger child should have this type of communication. If you're not able to disable chat features on a game, don't purchase that game at all. Ask the staff at the store which games are the best bet.

Rent before you buy! It is not uncommon to buy a new game, take it home and then play it only to realize that it is nowhere near the fun you thought it would be. It may not appeal to you in any number of ways. Rent it first and find out if it truly offers what you want.

Nintendo Wii

An excellent way to please your children with a gaming system and ensure they stay fit is to buy a Nintendo Wii. This gaming system requires actual activity to play. Your kids will not be sitting for hours on end playing a game. They have to be moving around in order to play the games on this system.

Many parents do not know that the PS3 and Xbox have parental control settings. On both of these gaming systems, the parent can lock out certain game ratings and movie ratings. They can also restrict browsing on the internet. The Nintendo Wii also has this feature, but many of the Nintendo games are family friendly.

If you need to exercise, think about getting an interactive game that focuses on physical activity. There are plenty of games made to help you get into shape and engage in physical activity.
