What is KVPY?

KVPY means Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) which is one type of scholarship program funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India which is an initiative to attract exceptionally highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science. It’s a program to understand every student’s mentality regarding Science & Technology.

KVPY Selection Procedure

KVPY is administered by the Indian Institute of Science(IISc). Selection of the students in KVPY is made from those studying in 11th STD to 1st year of any undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology having aptitude for scientific research. IISc will conduct an aptitude test for KVPY at various centers in the country to screen applications. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure and the results are declared by IISc only. For receiving a KVPY scholarship or fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered and it is compulsory. The merit list is based on 75% weight-age for Aptitude Test marks and 25% weight-age for the interview marks in the streams SA, SB and SX.

Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered. Generous scholarships are provided up to the Pre-Phd. level to the selected KVPY Fellows.
