1.Yeovil or Taunton Registrar Offices – a somewhat surprising choice for the top spot but in terms of the number of couples that get married there then these two must win hands down! Taunton is more pleasing architecturally, 19th Century city father sort of feel whilst Yeovil is a bit post war bland but light and airy. There are no facilities to eat or celebrate afterwards at either venue, but you could always hire a vintage charabanc and transport your guests to the Hive Café on the Jurassic coast for some 5* fish and chips!

2.Brympton House (www.brympton.house) – the jewel in the South West’s wedding venue crown Grade 1 listed Brympton House is a stately pile in Somerset that has been described as ‘the most beautiful house in England’. Offering exclusive use Brympton House has an exquisite 14th Century Church nestled in the estate grounds, a sublime civil ceremony space (Castle House dating from 1350), a party barn, a choice of where to hold your wedding breakfast (from the light filled Ballroom seating 200 to the Grand Salon seating 100), accommodation for up to 70 guests and beautiful gardens and grounds.

  1. Almonry Barn (www.almonrybarn.com ) – a magnificent medieval stone barn set on the Somerset marshes the barn offers civil ceremonies on its mezzanine level and eating and partying in the main space below. The styling of the barn (excluding flowers) is included in the venue hire fee but there is no accommodation on site and the party does have to stop at 11.30pm but it still tops the poll at number 3 because it’s so pretty!
  2. Babington House (www.babingtonhouse.co.uk ) at fourth place is a scion of SOHO House. Babington is centred around a Georgian rectory and whilst operating as a private members club with all the facilities that London lovies enjoy – infinity pools, a spa and an onsite cinema - it also offers weddings on a Thursday.
  3. Ston Easton (www.stoneaston.co.uk ) is a traditional luxury hotel on the fringes of Bath with a lovely ballroom to eat and party in. it offers exclusive use on any day of the week.
  4. Maunsel House (www.maunselhouse.co.uk ) – another stately pile, slightly smaller than Brympton House but with a similar mix of onsite church and accommodation. The lovely ballroom doubles up as the civil ceremony, wedding breakfast and party space although you can tie the knot in the bandstand if you want to get married in the open air!
  5. Dillington House ( www.dillingtonhouse.co.uk ) – owned by South Somerset District Council Dillington House is a grand old manor house surrounded by a lovely garden. There are some lovely old-fashioned bedrooms in the main house but most guests are housed in an ultra-modern accommodation block.
  6. North Cadbury Court ( www.northcadburycourt.com ) – more of a grand county house let than a wedding venue The Court as it is fondly known is owned by the Montgomery family – makers of a very fine cheddar cheese. The Court has an indoor swimming pool and a golf tee on its roof – so plenty to keep your guests occupied!
  7. St Audries Park ( www.audries-park.co.uk ) – part of the Country House Weddings group St Audries has views towards the cost at Minehead and beautifully manicured gardens.
  8. Pennard House ( www.pennardhouse.com ) – the place to go for a dreamy garden wedding Pennard House is situated near Glastonbury.
