The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the supervision of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) launched a standalone digital guide for highway commuters. The application was proposed to safeguard motorists and improve their experience on national highways in the country.

The Centre’s autonomous agency, National Highways Authority of India, with the assistance of the ComVision (India) Pvt Ltd, designed and developed the application. Sukhad Yatra has built-in GPS system that gives location-specific information to the highway users.

Sukhad Yatra allows users to locate nearby Toll gates and amenities in the vicinity of their highway. Motorists can get information on nearby facilities such as restaurants, fuel stations, ATMs, restrooms, and more. Now, motorists can locate Toll gantries with one click. Sukhad Yatra gives real-time data including the expected halting time at Toll plazas and facilities nearby.

The mobile application allows users to pay their Toll fee electronically with Buy FASTag. Sukhad Yatra has seven standalone features - Nearby Toll Plaza(s), Toll Plaza Enroute, Buy FASTag, Know Your Highway, Report An Issue, Report Summary, Near By, and Rate Us. Highway users can harness the Toll Plaza Enroute tool to track all the Toll booths along with their destination on highways. Also with Sukhad Yatra, motorists can check on applicable tariffs within the application.

Complementing the Government of India’s Digital India initiative, the NHAI’s Sukhad Yatra also supports Wayside Amenities by allowing motorists to locate nearby amenities on or near national highways.

Sukhad Yatra will be more helpful to motorists who find difficulty in remembering the signboards and routes can make use of Know Your Highway feature, which gives information on the quickest route to travel between two stations. For this, users need to give information on their current highway coordinates and the application will suggest the shortest route to the destination.

Sukhad Yatra allows highway users to register their complaints or grievances concerning highways sector digitally. The registered complaints are processed immediately for redressal and are backed up in the centralised database. Also, the highway mobile-utility allows users to post their feedback through its Report Summary and Rate Us tools.

Users can not only post their complaint but also can track, and view the status of their complaint within the application. Augmenting the highway users’ experiences, Sukhad Yatra has drawn 40,000 user-downloads within a week of its launch. The user base of the application is projected to grow on the much larger scale in coming days.

From providing real-time data and guiding commuters along their journey, Sukhad Yatra application enhances user experiences on highways. The highway guide gives information on Toll plazas, cuts down manual Toll operations and brings transparency in the Toll payments.

Using Sukhad Yatra, commuters can avail emergency facilities at the time of crisis, locate nearby amenities and register the road and highway issues directly to the administers. The application plays a vital role in enhancing commuter’s journey on highways and accelerating the NHAI’s other projects. It also acts as an effective medium between government and public; wherein the government can understand public concerns and address with relevant measures.
