1. Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary

The Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Kids will certainly enjoy spotting the elephants, tigers, deer, monkeys, butterflies, birds, and other animals roaming freely in this jungle that they call home. The sanctuary has also been declared a Project Elephant site.

2. Neelimala

Bond with your kids on your family vacations at the trekkers’ delight—Neelimala. Here you will find several trekking routes that are easy for kids to complete. As you all walk up, take in the scent of the coffee, ginger, and areca nut plantations around. The stunning view from the top will surely leave you speechless. 3. Meenmutty Waterfalls

Meenmutty is the largest waterfall in Wayanad. This majestic waterfall gushes in three stages from a height of around 300 meters. The trek to this waterfall is refreshing as it passes through lush and dense foliage. This is also a good spot to go on a picnic with the kids.

4. Chethalayam Falls

While the Chethalayam falls are smaller in comparison to the Meenmutty Waterfalls, they are known to be a great spot for bird watching. Do remember to take along a book which has information on the birds of Wayanad so that your kids can have fun crossing out the ones they see here!

5. Banasura Sagar Dam

The Banasura Sagar Dam is the largest earth dam in India. It is located near Karalad Lake and is made of compacted rock and soil fragments. The dam’s reservoir also has a few islands caused due to the submerging of the surrounding areas, making it a spectacular sight to behold! The magnanimous dam will leave your kids spellbound and give you a great opportunity to tell them about the functions of a structure, while it holds their attention!

6. Edakkal Caves

Spend some time on your family vacations at the Edakkal Caves are the perfect place to teach your kids the history of this region. The caves are said to have been formed by a huge split in a large rock and have etchings and drawings that date back to pre-historic times.

7. Pakshipathalam

Pakshipathalam is home to massive boulders and caves which have a number of animals and birds living there. You and the kids can spend some time spotting a few rare birds and their nests as well. Its location deep in the forests of the Brahmagiri Hills almost makes it magical and will certainly enchant your kids.

8. Wayanad Heritage Museum

Another great place to teach kids history in a fun way is at the Wayanad Heritage Museum. This is one of the best-maintained and largest archaeological museums in Kerala. Its exhibits include sculptures, pottery, stone carvings, tribal artifacts, and other items belonging to various periods.

9. Pazhassi Museum

The Pazhassi Museum showcases the tomb and memorabilia of the Pazhassi Raja who was the last ruler of the region. He fought valiantly against the British until he was defeated in 1805.The museum contains ancient coins, umbrella stones, temple models, and a host of other exhibits, making it a fascinating place for people of all ages, especially the kids! While here, be sure to visit the nearby art gallery that showcases paintings by some of Kerala’s most prominent artists.

10. Paingatteri Agraharam

This is a settlement of Tamil Brahmins whose houses are built in the classic Tamilian architectural style. These houses have been declared as heritage sites by the archaeological department of India. Other beautiful attractions here include lovely temples and ponds. All in all, Paingatteri Agraharam is a wonderful place for you and your kids to experience Kerala’s Tamil culture.
