Whether you live in India, China or North America, you will have heard of the Beatles. Even if they weren’t your favourite band, the impact they have had on popular culture is quite remarkable and we still see examples of their influence today.

The Beatles story

If you are a true fan of the Beatles, perhaps the best place for you to visit is the Beatles Story Exhibition, transporting visitors into an incredibly immersive journey depicting the lives of four young friends from Liverpool. The exhibition is the largest of its kind – documenting the journey of the four from humble childhood beginnings to incredible heights of fame.

The true charm is the exhibitions depiction of the early 60’s. Whether you were around during this time, or if you grew up with your parents listening to music from the period, you will undoubtedly appreciate the heritage of popular culture that harks back to this period.

The Exhibition offers audio guides available in six different languages as well as memorabilia and exclusive photographs. You also get to mingle with many other Beatles fans and see how far the band’s popularity reached – you will undoubtedly see fans gather from the four corners of the globe as part of the Beatles tour in Liverpool.

Venues

The band played all over the city of Liverpool. Visiting some of their most frequently visited establishments – whether they are well preserved or showing signs of deterioration – it is a great experience for Beatles enthusiasts. Understanding where the band came from and the kinds of places they played in before they become so internationally famous is great for reflecting on the true roots of the band.

The most famous among these is the Cavern club where the band really made an impression during the Mersey Beat in the 1960’s. The original club which the Beatles played 292 times closed in the 70’s but was reconstructed in the same location using many of the same bricks which were found when the site was excavated. Another important venue was the Casbah Coffee club considered to be one of their more personal places to play.

Mathew Street

Located in the city centre, Mathew Street is a must-see location for Beatles fans. This is where the Cavern Club is situated, but is also where the band spent time during their early years in various establishments. Among these is the Grapes pub – an old-fashioned English pub that has retained much of its original 60’s décor making it a true gem. Make sure you have a drink here like the Beatles did all those years ago.

The statue of Eleanor Rigby, the inspiration for one of their most popular songs, also resides nearby on Stanley Street, sculpted by Tommy Steele, one of Britain’s first rock and roll stars. Getting a photo sitting next to her on the bench is a favourite for many die hard Beatles fans.

Beatles landmarks

Perhaps one of the most known landmarks related to the Beatles in Liverpool is the four life-size bronze statues that are situated at pier head. Depicting the band walking merrily together, thousands have flocked to the area for the chance to take a photo with these life-sized figures. This is also a popular starting point for various Beatles tours in Liverpool that stretch throughout the city.

This brings in visitors from all over the world who make it a goal to tick off all the various attractions associated with the renowned band.
