A Tailormade Wildlife Holiday in Botswana
There is so much to discover in the country of Botswana that helping design your own holiday allows to you pick and choose the very best on offer. Your itinerary can be built around how much time you have at your disposal and ensure that every important aspect is covered.
What to See in Botswana
The Okavango Delta is one of Africa’s iconic wildlife areas and is as famous as the Serengeti in Tanzania. This area, the only inland delta in the world, is stunning in beauty, rich in wildlife and retains its reputation as one of the best places to spot African big game.
The annual floods begin in the delta in May and it is at this time that the animals migrate from the Kalahari to take solace in the abundance of water, prey, grass and shade. The wonderful thing about this region is that it maintains very high standards of accommodation, by limiting numbers of visitors allowed. Guests stay in organised camps, set up with every facility on hand. In the centre of the Okavango is the Moremi, which is a busier area of the delta but also home to the Mombo Concession, regarded as the best one in the entire continent.
Naxi Pan National Park should definitely feature on any tailormade wildlife holiday to Botswana. Joining with the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park to the north, Naxi is a fossil lakebed that covers about fifteen square miles. Acacia and other woodland contribute to the landscape here, which is covered in greenery from November to April. This national park is famous for its large Springbok population, which are easy to spot in the short grasses; Giraffes, Wildebeest, Eland and Red Hartebeest are among the other animals spotted frequently here. There is also a high chance of seeing a Hyena, Cheetah, Jackal or even a Leopard in the park, too, and during the wet season the Elephant and Buffalo always make an appearance. Birdlife is prolific and you will be treated to sightings of Raptors, Kestrels and Goshawks.
From here, a trip to the Kalahari is definitely in order. This desert, the largest sand basin in the world, stretches two and a half thousand kilometres and covers several countries. Despite the lack of water, there is much vegetation and the grasslands and acacia dominated habitats stretch for many miles.
If you choose to help design a tailormade wildlife holiday you will never be disappointed. With the help of dedicated experts, you can pick and choose exactly where and when you want to go and end up with the perfect trip for you.
