You must have come across a wide variety of heating elements and heaters in your home as well as workplace as you go about your daily activities. You may also have wondered as to how heating elements work and heat is generated by such equipment. To put it in perspective heating elements are the heat generation equipment present in all electrical heaters. Electric heating elements manufactured in a variety of materials and configurations are fitted in electric equipment of different shapes and sizes. Irrespective of their configuration and construction, all heating elements serve a common purposeā€”convert electrical energy into heat energy and then transfer that heat energy to or through air, liquid or solids by convection, conduction or radiation.

In fact, to understand the working of this heat generating equipment, you need to understand first that it is all about electrical current, electric heating and resistance. Electric heating refers to the process of converting electric energy into heat energy. An electric heater is an electric device that converts electric current to heat, the heating element being an electric resistor. Electric current passing through the resistor builds up heat owing to the resistance it is offered. There are an extensive variety of heaters built either for domestic or industrial purpose.

One important thing to note here is that heating elements have a comparatively shorter life span as compared to the devices in which they are installed. These elements therefore are replaced at regular intervals for maximum heat generation efficiency. Replacement heating elements can be stock or custom-made to fit the application by most heating element manufacturers and service providers.

A most common type of heater found in domestic as well as industrial settings is the immersion heater or the immersion rod as it is commonly known. It is a device that is designed primarily for direct immersion into liquids like oil, water, solvents, etc. It has an electrical resistance heating encased in a tube. Immersion heaters also known as water heating elements are commonly used in various places to heat water. A very important feature of immersion heaters is that they are 100 per cent energy efficient. This is not hard to decipher as it is immersed in the liquid that needs to be heated; the end result is that the entire heat is generated within the liquid.

However, it is important to source all heat generating materials and equipment from reputable manufacturers and suppliers to derive the maximum benefit from them. Top of the line suppliers offer heaters in large range of kilowatt ratings and models to suit your specific requirements.
