The Ultimate Travel Guide to Canada
Posted: Jun 26, 2018
Canada is an amazing country in North America which is home to friendly locals, diverse cities, quirky towns, unspoiled landscapes and the lush wilderness. It’s one of the most beautiful countries in the world, so it makes for an enticing travel trip. Brightsun Travel offers cheap air tickets to Canada, so whether you’re an adrenaline junkie, wildlife enthusiast or a traveller looking for a new travel destination, you can visit this stunning country for cheap. Below is our Canada travel guide which will help you begin your travel planning.
Entry Requirements
All UK citizens will need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) if transiting or travelling to Canada, unless otherwise exempted (this may be if you have a valid Canadian visa). The cost of the eTA is around £4 and you can apply online at www.cic.gc.ca. A valid passport is also required for entry to Canada.
Getting Around
If you’re planning to explore more than one region in Canada, then renting a car is probably your best option. Car rental pricing varies by season, so it’s best to book in advance. There are also excellent public transportation networks in Canada including a metro system, a train service called VIA Rail which travels through the coasts, regional buses which connect much of Canada’s small towns and a frequent taxi service. The cheapest transport option to take between cities is the Megabus, which is super cheap if booked in advance.
When to Visit
For skiing holidays, Canada is best visited in winter (November – February) when its majestic landscapes are covered in layers of snow. For pleasant weather, summer (June-September) should be considered, with temperatures ranging between 20 and 30 degrees. Spring (March - June) and autumn (September - November) offer lower temperatures but fewer tourist crowds and cheaper hotel rates, so these seasons are considered the best times to visit Canada, especially in autumn when its landscapes feature spectacular colour changes.
Where to Visit
Canada is a gigantic country with a plethora of different regions to discover, so trying to cover everything in one trip is impossible. Below are some of the country’s destination highlights, and we advise choosing one or two that sound the best for your travels.
Central Canada
Central Canada is the country’s tourist hub which is home to plenty of world-class cities including Ottawa; Canada’s excellent capital city which has many architectural marvels to admire. Montreal is another notable destination in the region which offers visitors an insight into fascinating history and culture, as well as Toronto, with its soaring skyscrapers and thriving night scene.
Western Canada
Western Canada is an extraordinary region, especially British Colombia and Alberta; these provinces make a popular travel combo because a lot of the country’s spectacular scenery and wildlife can be found here, as well as the Canadian Rockies; an iconic mountain range with snow-capped peaks, alpine lakes and waterfalls.
Eastern Canada
If you want to discover the best of Canada’s natural landscapes, then head east. The Maritimes are a highlight of Eastern Canada, with plenty of national parks to explore and a phenomenal coastline with lots of sandy beaches, beautiful bays and towering cliffs. The Serene Newfoundland and Labrador province is also worth a visit; there’s a beautiful remoteness about it.
