The Interislander is a company which was established in the year 1962 in the town of Wellington, New Zealand. It was initiative of the state owned New Zealand Railways and after some time became a division of KiwiRail. There are two classes of Interislander: One is for the passengers and the other serves as a medium for transporting freight packages.

Ever since its launch other companies have also stepped in the market and introduced similar versions which failed to surpass the quality and durability of the Interislander. In the year 2017, KiwiRail then aligned Interislander into their latest tourism brand called "The Great journeys of New Zealand" and the Interislander was used in their three passenger services which are called TransAlpine, Northern Explorer and Coastal Pacific. Currently there are three models of ferries which are run under the "Great Journeys of New Zealand Brand". Below is a list of each of their individual features:

  • Kaitaki: The name signifies taking on challenges and facing the tides of the water. It is the largest and most spacious ferry of New Zealand which has a passenger capacity of 1350. It houses two exquisite restaurants and an inbuilt sports bar for passengers to enjoy the true taste of luxury and fine cuisines at its best. There is a special inhouse café which serves up mouthwatering delicacies for children and also serves as a great play area with all the recreational elements such as two seating lounges, free-wi-fi, cabins, shops, video games consoles and the cinema hall.   • Kaiarahi:Kaiarahi in Maoi means to lead and soar in battle and in life. Its one of the newest ferries in the family of the Interislanders and it has a class of its own. There are several lounges, restaurants and drink options available in the ferry making it a favorite amongst all age groups. In addition, services like special playing areas, rooftop views, lounging areas, cinema halls, spacious lifts and a unique crèche for kids are something’s which make it an all-time travel companion.
  • Aratere:Aratere has been derived from the meaning Quick path to success or victory. It is the oldest and the classiest ferry vessels of the Interislander brand of all time. It comprises of three cleverly placed viewing decks which provide scenic views and are fitted with Marlborough sounds. The aratere drinks bar and lounge is something which is a must visit place. Also, the food courts, cinema halls, seating lounges and spacious viewing areas add a pizzazz of their own to this iconic touring vessel.
