How to Guard Your Money While Traveling
Posted: Jun 29, 2018
Protecting your money is an additional pain when you are traveling to a new city or country. You have to be on your toes most of the time since you cannot be sitting in your hotel all the while, but it makes difficult to guard the important documents and money. Nevertheless, it does not make sense to worry too much about crucial possessions while traveling; you can take a few important things in consideration to be on the safer side.
Ease up your wallet
Your wallet often contains innumerable useless things; take them out and leave at home. You may not need various credit cards, debit cards, doctor’s prescription, yoga class receipt, fuel receipt, and many such things. It is better to leave anything that you will not need on your vacation at home so that there is no chance of losing them. Do not carry your Adhaar Card or any other important document that you fear losing. If you think you would need them, you can carry a photocopy of your important ID cards, or a duplicate ID card. Do not carry your check book unless you are on a business trip.
Use credit cards
Credit cards are the best thing to use when you are out for a vacation as compared to a debit card. It is even better if your credit card has zero-liability policy, which means you are not liable to pay anything for unauthorized purchases from a stolen or lost credit card. However, you have to intimate your credit card company about your lost card, which is why you must carry the contact information of your vendor along with the copy of your card. Some credit card companies also provide insurance for the purchases made from their cards, though this service is available only in a few countries. Keep a backup credit card anywhere apart from your wallet so that you can use it if your wallet is stolen. Divide the cash like this as well.
Keep away from fake ATMs
It does not happen too frequently, but you should stay away from bogus ATMs that are sited at high-traffic areas. Prefer to use ATMs that are located in the airports, hospitals, and banks. You can also use an application to find out an ATM from your bank.
Use debit card carefully
If you find that your debit card is lost, you must take quick action and inform the bank. Since a debit card is a quick way to access your money in the bank, a thief may use it inappropriately to rob you of your precious money. Although banks impose a limit on the amount that one can withdraw from a debit card, a monetary loss is still a loss. Moreover, subscribe for mobile alerts for cash withdrawals.
Use the hotel safe
The hotel rooms are not too safe, and you cannot take them for granted. Since you can change the password of your hotel safe, it is better to keep your valuables in it rather than keeping them openly in the room. Lock your camera, iPod, iPhone, laptop, passport, credit card, copies of important documents, and expensive jewelry in the safe.
Clean our car
You may be driving around a car hire Mumbai or your car to visit places. You must never keep precious things in clear sight in your car for the thieves to set their eyes on them. You must either lock your precious possessions in the hotel room or hide them in the boot of the car. In many countries, robbers do not shy away from breaking in the boot as well. Research about the crime rate of your vacation destination, if you feel so.
