Isb essay question 1: analyzing the recent and past questions in isb essays

It makes sense for applicants to the ISB PGP program to read through recent and past questions in ISB Essays in order to familiarize themselves with the pattern of the questions and to prepare themselves adequately. In this blog series we have attempted to analyze each of the three ISB Essay Questions that were asked in the 2013-14 PGP Program.
ISB Essay Question 1 2013-14:
Attitude, skills and knowledge differentiate people. Elaborate with two examples on how you would differentiate yourself from other applicants to the PGP.
ISB Essay 1 Tips:
This is a standard question that appears in all ISB Essays in one form or the other. The essence of this question is that it seeks to differentiate one applicant from the other and thus helps the Selection Committee in determining the fitment of the applicant to the ISB PGP program. The ideal class is one that is highly accomplished, experienced and diverse as it is this myriad set of students that lead to the most effective peer group learning and sharing. In order to crack this question, it is desirable to look at some of the older questions:
ISB Essay Question 1 - 2012-13: Please make a strong case to differentiate yourself from an exceptional set of applicants applying for PGP 2013-14. You could cite personal/ professional achievements to present your case.
ISB Essay Question 1 - 2010-2011: If we were to admit one more student to the class of 2012, make a compelling argument as to why that student should be you.
ISB Essay Question 1 - 2009-2010: Give three reasons as to why you should be selected to the class of 2011. These reasons should ideally differentiate you from the applicant pool and should be backed with some data.
ISB Essay Question 1 - 2008-2009: Please give three reasons why ISB should admit you into the class of 2010. These reasons should ideally differentiate you from the competition.
ISB Essay Question 1 - 2007-2008: The ISB culture stresses on a diverse mix of students; life at the ISB is a unique experience for the students. How will your candidature contribute to this culture at the ISB?
In order to make a credible differentiation and to write effectively it is important for applicants to acquire knowledge about the ISB and its student profile beforehand http://www.isb.edu/pgp/peer-group/class-profile. Applicants need to do some soul searching and introspection so that they can come up with true answers that define their basic character and persona. Information on their strengths, achievements in personal/professional life and what sets them apart from the others are important and need to written effectively and supported with data and examples. What were the skills and qualities that helped them achieve success in their career or personal life.
Applicants can choose to write on any personal aspect or an experience from their professional career but they should take care to ensure that it is relevant to the ISB application and talks about them and not another person. Also, it should align overall to their application to the ISB, that is, the content and experience referred to in the essay should complement information provided in the other essays, particularly reinforce the goal statement referred to in Essay 2 and avoid overlaps in Essay 3.
