The ISB Essay Question 2 over the last few years has been as follows:

ISB Essay Question 2 - 2013-14: How does the ISB PGP tie-in with your career goals?

ISB Essay Question 2 - 2012-13: Where do you see yourself three years after you graduate from the ISB?

ISB Essay Question 2 - 2010-11: What are your short term and long term goals? How will the ISB help you achieve the same?

ISB Essay Question 2 - 2009-10: Briefly assess your career progression till date along with your assessment of your future career goals. Discuss how your career goals will be met by the ISB’s one year program.

Simple as it might seem, applicants are advised to exercise care while attempting to answer this question. This question requires applicants to clearly state their career goals and how they plan to achieve them with the resources available at ISB.

As a best practice applicants should reflect upon their qualifications and achievements and determine what they want to do in their professional life. If they like a particular profession or a specific industry and have a role model in mind, then they must mention these facts as a career goal and must connect this goal with the support that they would seek from ISB and its vast resource pool of faculty, alumni, students, clubs and the PGP Program itself.

The heart of the matter lies in building up a case as to why applicants believe that only ISB’s PGP Program is the one that is ideal for them in realizing their career goals. The key point here is that reference is being made to ISB and not to any other MBA program. Therefore, over here it becomes necessary for applicants to link their career goals with their individual strengths/ capabilities and what they have experienced so far in their careers. A logical step-by-step approach works clearly in favor of the applicants as they are able to justify that the work done by them so far has been a part of the overall career plan that they have thought out for themselves after graduating from ISB.

Applicants should take care to ensure that if they have over-ambitious targets or career goals, then these plans must be based on ground realities and must be supported by a sound and proper plan that doesn’t leave any loose ends or has any grey areas that could be misinterpreted. In other words applicants must clearly state their objectives and how they plan to achieve them. There’s no room here for a casual or a wishy- washy approach.

Applicants are advised to showcase in the essay key aspects of the ISB Program, community and resources that they believe are vital for their training and learning. Demonstrating a sound knowledge of how utilization would be made of the resources and linking that to the development of the applicant and how it will help him/ her in achieving the career goals is crucial. Rather than apply bookish knowledge, applicants are encouraged to bring conviction in their answers so that they are able to create the right impact on the admission committee. Applicants are also encourage to make optimum utilization of the word limit in the essays.
