India's second largest steelmaker JSW Steel posted a near-fourfold increase in its consolidated net profit for the quarter ended June to Rs 2,339 crore, helped by better realization and higher sales. A Reuter’s poll of 10 analysts estimated the company to report a consolidated net profit of Rs 2,114 crore, from Rs 624 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago. The company's consolidated revenue from operations increased 25.3 percent year on year to Rs 20,519.

In April this year, Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone Group had announced an agreement for the merger of Indus Towers and Bharti Infratel to create the largest mobile tower operator in the world outside China. It will have over 163,000 towers across 22 telecom service areas in India. The combined company will own 100 per cent of Indus Towers jointly owned by Bharti Infratel (42 per cent holding), Vodafone (42 pc), Idea Group (11.15 pc) and Providence (4.85 pc).Post the deal, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone will jointly control the combined company, and the transaction is expected to close before the end of 2018-19

In the last hour, some selling in midcaps, metals, infra, energy, auto and IT names dragged the market lower from the day’s high points. The midcap index managed to end on a flat note, with a negative bias. The Sensex is up 33.13 points or 0.09% at 36858.23, while the Nifty is down 2.30 points or 0.02% at 11132.00. The market breadth is narrow as 1346 shares advanced, against a decline of 1265 shares, while 172 shares are unchanged.
