Three things you can only do on venice airport transfers

Anyone preparing to travel to, or freshly arrived to, Venice will know of the city’s one distinguishing feature, which sets it apart from any other major urban centre in the world: the complete absence of motorised traffic. The city centre is entirely pedestrian, and the lack of major roads means no cars could circulate even if they were allowed to. Instead, the main form of transportation within the city is by water, namely on boats which traverse the city’s legendary canals.

This status quo extends to Venice airport transfers, which, as a result, are unlike any found elsewhere in the world. Instead of the dull and generally featureless shuttle taxis or coaches, and the drab motorway landscapes, guests arriving at Marco Polo Airport are taken to the city centre in water taxis, speedboat-type boats that deftly traverse their way over the waterways to whichever drop-off point their customers may have chosen.

But aside from their versatility – again, not found on most land-bound shuttles and coach services – Venice airport transfers offer a plethora of other perks that travellers just arriving into the water city can use in their favour, as a way to begin enjoying their stay in Italy even before checking into the hotel. Below are three things that would be impossible in a ‘regular’ airport shuttle, but can be done on water taxis, should tourists desire it.

Seeing the City From the Water

For most tourists, Venice airport transfers are likely to take the place of the boat tours also largely available throughout the city. This is because, by and large, the two traverse the same type of route, with many of the city's main monuments being easy to glimpse from the seat of a water taxi. Needless to say, this can also help guests save a fair bit of money, as they will not feel the need to take the tour a second time.

Waving to Passers-By

A boat ride is an excellent opportunity to engage with passers-by on the shore – it's an activity children are particularly fond of, but adults can often not resist either. Water taxis, of course, offer the chance to do this, whereas it might have been difficult to achieve from a ‘regular’ coach or shuttle.

Catch Some Air

Most airport coaches are legendarily stuffy, and can often cause motion-sickness to more sensitive travellers. Venice airport transfers are excellent in this regard, as they allow you to step out of the cabin onto the outside area whenever you wish, for a breath of fresh air. Weather permitting, bolder tourists can even take the opportunity to tan on the hull of the boat, although certain companies may have restrictions in this regard.

It is clear, then, that the unique nature of water taxis makes them an attraction unto themselves, and opens up possibilities not available to tourists travelling on regular shuttles.
