So you might be thinking of changing your current job profile or career to something more appealing or meaningful career, but are you on the right path?! Are you taking the right decisions?! These kind of questions can not only confuse you but also make you prone to doing something very soon or very late depending on the situation you are in. Changing you career can be a tiresome process and not everyone will come victorious, but eventually you will end up learning a lot. If you decide to enter a new career path, it takes time, dedication and commitment to achieve what you have dreamed about all these days. The only thing that matters in the end is how driven you are at your personal and professional level. Your dedication and hard work can alone lead you to glory and changing your career might turn out to be the best decision you have ever taken in your life, but it can equally go south and you can end up in a complete different position you earlier have hoped for if you are not careful enough. In today’s article we will highlight some dos and don’t s when it comes to career transition.

Dos:

  1. Figure out & plan:

Before jumping into any impulsive decision, always ask yourself couple of questions. It will not only help you to be clear in your head but also help you to plan out your entire journey before stepping right into it. Why, what and how you are planning on doing things have much greater impact on the outcome of when, how much and how long.

What do you want to do? What’s motivating you for this career change? Two important questions only you can answer.

  1. Research:

Many a times a good old introspection can help you in numerous ways you can imagine. Find out about your individuality and work on it. Don’t do things just because everybody else is doing it. Give some time to yourself and find out what you like and how you can work out a plan around it. However the most important aspect of research is, it will help you see a comprehensive scene about the market, industry and profile you want to go for. So it is very important that you have researched thoroughly before planning any move regarding your career.

  1. Back up:

A back up doesn’t necessarily mean a financial security, it can also mean emotional support, a friend with industry insight who can guide you in case things don’t work out as planned. However when it comes to finance, back up becomes particularly important, simply because financial security can greatly affect your mental state as well as your zeal to do hard work. Similarly a friend who can give you emotional strength and guidance in need is equally important during these tough days of your life.

Don’t

  1. Don’t rush:

Don’t rush into every knock at your door. Just because your planned approach is taking longer than you thought, that doesn’t mean you are failing or you plan is not working out. Have faith in yourself. A new opportunity can be anything, from an academic degree to a new job opportunity in some different field, the plan is to not get diverted and stay hopeful and strong.

  1. Don’t rely on assumptions:

Do not nurture false assumptions and take decisions based on that. Trusting your instincts and assumption are two different things and can prove costly if you are not careful enough and equally lazy. We tend to assume things as we are too lazy to go and find out the truth. Over time it will make you more lazy and will affect your decision making process significantly.

  1. Don’t regret:

Successful people seldom regret over things and decisions they had to take in the past. Mainly because, if you are regretting over some thing or issue then that clearly means you can’t fix it now(or else you would have tried and fixed it) and is a thing of past. Since anyway you can’t fix or control it now, there is no point regretting and wasting time over that issue. So stop regretting over the very decision of changing your career and start working on yourself now.
