How to enjoy the effect of the spring cleaning longer

The annual deep cleaning is a ritual we all perform, considering it essential for eliminating accumulated dust and dirt in our homes over the winter. Unfortunately, the results of it are satisfying but short-lived and the work and time such a project requires deprive us of the possibility to do it more often.

Wouldn’t it be great, though, if there was a way to prolong the effect of the spring cleaning? Sounds hard to achieve but the truth is there are little things you could do to keep your place if not perfectly clean, at least as close to that as possible.

Clean your upholstered furniture

Sofas, couches, chairs and the likes tend to detain a lot of dust, as those furniture that are used on daily basis are even more predisposed to do so. Cleaning them in depth seems like a perfect task for the spring when the whole house is getting sanitised. However, that doesn’t mean that one time is enough.

Regular usage inevitably leads to detaining of dust, a possible appearance of dust mites and following health complications like allergies. Even if you can’t handle this yourself, professional upholstery cleaning is always an option.

Don’t start crowding the place

We all keep unnecessary items in our homes that don’t really serve a purpose. Whether for sentiment or some other reason we store them for "another time" which leaves us feeling like our homes are shrinking.

Decluttering is a natural part of the spring cleaning, the results of which could be easily saved just by keeping the main idea in mind - decreasing your possessions. Once you are on the "live with less" path, you shouldn’t go astray by filling every corner and space with new items again. Instead, decide on the spot whether you’ll be needing something for real and stick to your choices.

Your windows need constant attention

Nothing can compare to the satisfaction of seeing your home’s windows sparkling clean and fresh. Unfortunately, they are the first to get messy as soon as the next rain arrives. Although cleaning them could be a dread, that shouldn’t discourage you from doing the whole exercise over and over again. As a bonus, the more frequently you clean them, the less work you will have during your next spring cleaning.

The only thing to consider is the weather conditions during the specific season. In summer, for instance, the water will evaporate faster due to the high temperature, which could result in smudges on the glass. That’s why a cloudy day is more preferable for performing a window cleaning.

Go an extra mile with every regular cleaning

Now, that is something that will help you stay one step ahead of the grime and clutter. For example, schedule a window washing for a Sunday when you have less basic cleaning to do. Or just give the carpets a quick scrubbing with a solution of water, soap and essential oil while you are waiting for the laundry. By adding an extra task to your regular cleaning routine you will lower the chances of dirt accumulation and preserve your and your family’s health.
