ICS Security refers to the safeguarding of control systems in an industrial setting. It also involves the integrated software, hardware, control systems, and monitoring systems which maintain machinery and various devices in an industrial setting.

These control systems are used in numerous Industries around the world. The systems manage, monitor, and administer in settings that involve robotics, utilities, power plants, and other Industries. In the past, these systems lacked computing and various communication technologies and they were not networked. In industry today, these devices often exchange data over the internet, and while industrial control systems might not be connected to the internet many of their interfaces that are managed may be connected to the Internet.

About ICS Security

Normal conventional security is usually not enough to protect against cyber threats to its systems and other systems. ICS or industrial control systems have different requirements that impact the response time and ability to adapt to new emerging cybersecurity threats. These systems are often open to cyber attack. ICS cyber security looks for various strategies that are designed to protect these critical processes without impacting safety, productivity, and efficiency of the various systems.

Since critical Industrial systems and critical infrastructure are being networked and designed with new communication and computing technologies, they often can't be taken down when there are security updates and they can remain vulnerable and unpatched. Many of these systems run with limited computing power and don't have the capacity to run anti-malware and antivirus software. ICS Cyber Security Is involved with securing and maintaining these systems so that they are safe from outside threats. ICS involves the control and command systems and networks that support these industrial processes. SCADA security or supervisory control and Data Acquisition is considered the largest group of these systems.

Critical infrastructure such as Transportation Systems, electricity generation plants, chemical factories, oil refineries, and manufacturing facilities or large and complex. Many different sections of the plant must be monitored by plant operators to ensure that everything is running properly. This is why SCADA security is needed to ensure that all of these systems are safe and secure. ICS or Industrial Control Systems were developed to ensure that these industrial networks and systems are safe and secure from various threats.

ICS started as isolated and proprietary systems and there now open architectures that have standard Technologies. These are interconnected with the internet and various networks. MostICS security products today and ICS cyber security products use commercial software. this means that these systems are easy to use, companies have reduced costs, and they can monitor various systems from different locations. As more systems become connected to the internets more systems become connected to the Internet it's important to have robust and reliable cybersecurity.

Summary

It's important to have Industrial Systems with the right cybersecurity. ICS products can help secure critical infrastructure so that it is safe from various cyber threats. as Industrial Systems continue to be connected to the Internet they will need to be secure from their vulnerabilities. these systems are often open to network-based attacks so cybersecurity needs to be of a paramount concern for any industry that is concerned about cyber attacks and the security of their systems.
