How to Reset SMC on Mac?

Resetting SMC in Mac and Mac Pro with Removable Battery

  1. Switch off your Mac system.
  2. Now, remove the power adapter from the system.
  3. Remove the battery and long press the power key for 5-10 seconds.
  4. Now, release the button and now reconnect the power cables.
  5. Now, boot your Mac.

Resetting SMC on iMac

  1. Shut down the system and remove the power adapter.
  2. Now, wait for a few seconds and reconnect the power adapter to the system.
  3. Boot your system on your Mac.

Resetting SMC on Mac with Non-Removable Battery

  1. Shut down the Mac system and attach MagSafe power adapter.
  2. Long press left shift + control + option key and now press Power button as well.
  3. Wait for 10 seconds and release the keys.
  4. Now, press Power Button to boot your system.

Now, your SMC has been reset, the hardware should work correctly, and the issue must be resolved. If the methods didn’t work, then you will have to ensure that your Mac system has Intel since the Intel Macs have SMC controller.
