One of the most important goals in every hydraulic system is to make leak-free and reliable connections. To date, there is a wide range of methods, styles, and types of fittings you can choose from. But, no matter what method you are deploying, there are basic and fundamental factors you need to consider when selecting a metric push to connect tube fittings.

To make it easier, the industry has set some standards in the things and aspects you should consider when you are looking for the right tubes and fittings.

You just have to remember the STAMP acronym. It stands for Size, Temperature, Application, Media, and Pressure. Read on.

Size

One of the primary considerations when choosing a fitting style is the outside diameter and the thickness of the wall of the tube to be used. Keep in mind that in some connections, there are a few limitations in terms of the wall thickness. Moreover, you should also choose a tube with the right wall thickness and outside diameter after looking into the flow rate, system pressure, and the service environment.

Temperature

You might be dealing with a liquid that will be in varying temperatures. So, it is important that your tube fitting is made with a material that can handle the certain level of temperature. Additionally, you also want to look into the tube’s plating and seal type aside from the material so you can get a better idea of how high of a temperature it can handle.

Stainless steel has the highest range of temperature. It can handle up from -425 Fahrenheit to 1200 Fahrenheit of temperature so you might want to consider it if you are working with materials with extreme temperature.

Application

The environment where the system will be placed and the actual application can actually dictate the selection of your fittings. If the environment is more corrosive, you should consider looking for steel fittings that have protective coatings so they stay protected against corrosion.

Moreover, if you are working with salt, fertilizer, and detergent, it might be best to choose a steel fitting that has a special plating made of zinc-nickel as they are more tolerant to these materials.

Media

In correlation with the application, the type of material or fluid being conveyed through the system is also a very crucial factor to consider. Some fitting materials might not react well with certain fluids and they may pose hazards not only to the fluid but to the environment as well.

You can search the web for a guide or a chart that displays the fluid compatibility of different fitting materials to find out which ones are the right for the type of fluid you will be working with.

Pressure

Last but not the least, you should consider the level of pressure that the fitting type can handle. It is universal knowledge that pressure is a major part of hydraulic systems and choosing the right metric push to connect tube fittings is important to prevent any leaks caused by high pressure to happen. Just like the media, there is also a lot of available information regarding the compatibility of the tube fitting with the pressure level present in your system.
