Broome day tours can provide a unique perspective of the Kimberley area. Having an experienced guide to take the led will ensure a safe and relaxing trip. By booking a day tour you will benefit from having everything planned for you and have the opportunity to visit some amazing attractions, such as spectacular gorges, the Boab Prison Tree, Tunnel Creek and much more.

Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek

With stunning water-streaked walls which tower between 30 and 100 metres high, the Windjana Gorge is one of the Kimberley’s most spectacular gorges. During the wet season the Lennard River flows through the Windjana Gorge making it inaccessible. However, during the dry season lovely pools form around the trees and shrubs allowing tourists to walk through the majority of the gorge.

The pools are usually crammed with plenty of freshwater crocodiles. They are generally harmless and won’t stalk humans. However, they should be left along as they are still wild animals with very sharp teeth.

Tunnel Creek is Western Australia’s oldest cave system. It’s famous for being used as a hideout in the late 1800s by the Aboriginal leader Jandamarra. In 1897 he was killed outside the cave entrance.

The walk-through Tunnel Creek runs underground for 750 metres. Trekkers must wade through several pools of water along the way and return back the same way as the roof has collapsed near the centre. The cave is home to a variety of bat species such as ghost bats and fruit bats.

Boab Prison Tree

The Boab Prison Tree is significant to the local culture. The Boab Prison Tree is a large hollow boab tree that is around 1,500 years old having a girth of 14.7 metres. It was used as a temporary holding cell for Indigenous prisoners on their way to Derby for sentencing.

Mowanjum Aboriginal Art & Cultural Centre

The Mowanjum Aboriginal Art and Culture Centre is located 220 kilometres from Broome via sealed roads. It was created as an artist associated back in 2000. However today the centre hosts a variety of creative programs such as workshops, exhibitions, festivals and community projects.

The centre brings together the creativity of the Wunumbal, Ngarinyin and Worrorra people. These three language groups share some beliefs and have similar language structures. The Mowanjum Aboriginal Art and Culture Centre receives up to 25,000 visitors per year and is a great place to experience the local artistic culture.

Cape Leveque

Located on the tip of the Dampier Peninsula Cape Leveque is a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Broome. The drive includes 200 kilometres of unsealed road and a 4WD is highly recommended. During the wet season the road may be closed to traffic.

Cape Leveque has excellent fishing, snorkelling and swimming opportunities. Mud crabbing and Aboriginal bush tucker tours are also available. Cape Leveque is known for it’s crystal clear water sand sunning red sandstone cliffs.

Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm

Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm is Australia’s oldest pearl farm and the only working pearl farm open to the public. Located at the tip of Dampier Peninsular 220 kilometres north of Broome. Also, nearby is the Ardyaloon Community Hatchery which has been producing Trochus shell for many years.

A day tour can add value to any Kimberley holiday. Experienced and local guides understand the area well and will ensure the trip provides many opportunities to learn and experience the local culture and history while enjoying the Kimberley’s spectacular and wild landscapes.
