Located on the east coast of Australia, Sydney is the capital of the state of New South Wales and one of the country's leading cities. Besides being a gorgeous city with towering skyscrapers and other modern attractions, it is also home to some interesting Aboriginal archaeological sites. The city was first discovered by Lieutenant James Cook and named as New South Wales. In the years that followed, this region became a British penal colony and was later incorporated as a city in the year 1842. During your time in this attractive Australian city, you'll get to be in some fascinating places.

Your cheap holidays to Sydney would allow you to witness the Sydney Opera House. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most recognisable landmarks of the city. This opera house is photographed by plenty of tourists who take a harbour cruise while holidaying in the city. You can take a stroll around the building's exterior or unwind in one of the restaurants located in this part of Sydney. Guided walking tours of this building are also available for tourists, which depart every half an hour starting from 9:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the evening.

Known as 'Coathanger' among the local population, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is yet another attraction worth exploring during your cheap holidays to Sydney. Before the Sydney Opera House was constructed, this bridge was a well-known landmark of the city. It was constructed in the early 20th century and remains the largest steel arch bridge in the world. This bridge connects the north and south shores of the city's harbour and has a single curve that rises more than 130 metres above the water. A harbour tunnel was constructed in 1992 to ease traffic congestion and motorists can enjoy some excellent views of blue waters while driving over the bridge.

If you wish to escape the hustle-bustle of the city during your Sydney holidays, there would be no place better than the Royal Botanic Gardens. It offers tranquil surroundings and is at a short distance from the Sydney Opera House. The gardens cover a vast area of 30 hectares and comprise some fabulous themes with orchids, towering trees, and palm groves. One of the gardens' major highlights is the Palace Rose Garden, which has more than a thousand roses. The Fernery and Glasshouse Latitude 23 are other major attractions.

Sydney is undoubtedly famous for its charming beaches and your holiday in this city won't be considered complete without visiting some of them. Around the harbour, you can find several sheltered areas, calm waters, and powdery sands. If you wish to enjoy surfing or unwind in a cafe near the beach area, head to Bondi Beach. You can take a walk along the cliffs on the coast for some awe-inspiring views of the ocean. Manly Beach is yet another favourite among the tourists of Sydney. It has a beachfront promenade with some elegant shops and restaurants. Also worth visiting are the Cronulla, Bronte, Tamarama, and Maroubra beaches.
