How Should You Write About Your Travel Stories?
Posted: Nov 04, 2018
What else do we need to know about travel writing than just mentioning our tales of visiting different places? Isn’t is sufficient that we writing firsthand tales of our vacations? Well, no, it is not enough to just write whatever comes to your mind. If you are also struggling to write your stories properly and catch the attention of your readers, you need to know a few writing tips. Implement each guideline one at a time and make it a practice to write catchy articles, and you will see the progress in just a few weeks.
The seemingly perfect article
You may have looked at piece of writing that you wrote and exclaimed, ‘Woww, I am a brilliant writer". But you may label your own masterpiece as crap if you visit it one day later, and even more miserable if you re-read it a few more times. It happens with every writer, and it does not meant that you are a bad writer. It is just that no article or blog is perfect universally. However, the solution to this typical writers’ problem is that you must re-read and edit it to the best level possible and then publish it rather than uploading it in a haste.
Read a lot
For every writer, it goes without saying that no amount of reading is enough for them. Read articles and books from good writers and learn from them. You can learn the style of writing, how they express their opinions, how they create engaging stories, the kind of vocabulary they use, and the format of writing various pieces of writing. Just by reading, you can improve a lot on grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, etc. You will absorb the good things from great writers of every language, even the classic ones. Make it a point to read something, even if it is news editorials, just for the sake of it. You may not even realize that you have learned so much just by picking up a book or newspaper every day.
Write because you love it
Money always follows the people who are passionate about their work. If you have begun travel writing for the sake of money, you are in the wrong field my friend. You can write about just anything ranging from cheapest Self-Drive Cars in Mumbai to the most expensive flight in America, but whatever you put down on your computer screen should come out straight from your heart. Rather than gaining attention from those who pay you money, you should focus on building your audience who would read your articles even if you cannot have them published in the New York Times. When you are popular among the masses, money will automatically follow, through whichever means.
Motivate yourself
Have you ever attended an author’s meet and stared in awe at the guest speakers there? Doesn’t it feel wonderful to see other people who have achieved what they dreamt about? It is fine in the initial years of your writing career that you do not indulge in one-to-one talk with any published author or a famous editor. However, as you grow as a travel writer, you must attend relevant seminars, meet other travel writers, and discuss writing about tourist destinations. You may feel a little awkward in the beginning, but it is necessary to keep yourself motivated. You may also read about the success stories of other travel bloggers, even if they sound fake to you. Some motivation always lies there in each article, book, or newspaper if it managed to catch your attention for even five seconds!
