Moving house can be a very stressful process, but one area that is often overlooked is packing shoes. While packing shoes may sound simple, it can actually end up causing damage. So, here we have some house removalists Perth pro advice to help you ensure your shoes arrive in perfect condition at your new home.

Clear the Clutter

The first step of packing any area of your home is to clear the clutter. Have a look through your shoe collection and decide what should be packed and what needs to be retired from your wardrobe. Moving costs are directly related to the volume of items that need to be transported, so packing shoes that are damaged or worn will be a waste of money.

If you have shoes that don’t fit or you no longer wear, consider selling or donating them before you start packing. If you want to seriously clear some clutter, look at any shoes that you haven’t worn for a year.

Group Your Shoes

Once you have decided which shoes will be kept in your collection, you should sort them into different categories. This will not only make it easier for packing but also unpacking. For example, keep long shoes such as knee high boots in one category and runners, dress shoes and everyday shoes in other categories. Additionally, if you have any shoes made with particular materials, keep them together to avoid damage.

Prepare Each Pair

One of the easiest ways to pack your shoes for moving house is to prepare each pair. Check the shoes for damage and ensure that they are thoroughly clean. Remember dirt and other debris can be highly abrasive and cause damage during transit. Be sure to thoroughly dry your shoes, leaving them out in the sun to dry for at least a day before packing.

Finally, place some crumpled paper inside each of the shoes to maintain the shape. Even with careful packing, shoes will be under pressure during transit, so you want to avoid them using their shape.

Pack Early

Since packing shoes can be a little tricky, it is a good idea to get a head start on the task. Start by packing shoes that you don’t wear very often, so you can leave shoes you frequently wear until the last moment. For example, if you’re moving in winter, you’re not likely to need your summer sandals and light dress shoes. Ideally, your shoes should be packed in their original box, but if this is not possible, wrap the shoes and line them in a larger box. Remember that shoes can be heavy, so reinforce the box to avoid damage. Place heavier shoes at the bottom to allow you to put lighter shoes on top. Label the box with the particular categories of shoes, to make it easier unpacking at your new home.
