online learning

There exist many ways to kill a rat. Similarly, there is a variety of ways through which one can learn so long as the end goal is to gain knowledge. The advent of technology has created many learning opportunities with a remarkable introduction of online learning.

Currently, online and classroom settings remain critical learning techniques impressed by many. In an online environment, there is no one on one interaction between the teacher and the student as it is in the classroom settings. The same applies to class peers. Classroom and online learning techniques have some differences discussed below.

First, in online learning, reading remains paramount in as compared to classroom learning. It means that in online learning, 100% of classroom materials consist of assigned readings. This approach remains a complete contrary in the case of the classroom setting that primarily base on lectures as well as face-to-face interaction as a way of learning.

The second contrast is that feedback in online learning is sometimes slower as compared to face-to-face feedback found in classroom learning. As highlighted above, online learning slowly base on written material. Therefore, if one gets stuck on something, the professor or peers may not be necessarily available to give feedback on a current basis. Conversely, in classroom learning, one can get immediate assistance from teachers as well as peers whenever stuck. Feedback is, hence, faster and efficient than in online learning. Classroom learning is hence preferable for slow learners as compared to online learning.

Another difference is that in online learning, writing skills remain paramount. Contrary, this is not the case in classroom learning. In classroom learning, writing skills are just among the tools one uses to communicate; though critical, always writing complements other communication as well as assessment, particularly in-person dialogue and in presentations. When one is not a good writer, he can compensate with these communication forms in classroom learning. In online learning, assignments, as well as class communication, remain written and through email or instant messages. Therefore solid writing skills remain essential for success. This approach remains true not only to written assignments but also in interacting with peers and professors.

The other difference is that networking as well as social interaction varies in these learning settings. While classroom learning provides opportunities for peer networking with on campus, online learning may have students from various parts of the world. Hence, if one gets it easier to network on a face-to-face basis, then he will obviously online to the classroom setting.

Lastly, classroom learning is a group pursuit while online learning remains an individual pursuit. The process of learning in a classroom is a group activity while the bulk of an online learning takes place on an individual basis depending o class structure as well as content area, in small groups. Learners can utilize each other to supplement what the teacher has in classroom settings which are difficult in online learning. The teacher can as well give group assignments which are not likely in online learning.

In conclusion, many factors force people to inline towards a particular type of knowledge. Despite the differences, both types of learning are important. While online learning enables people from different places to acquire knowledge from one point through technology, classroom learning posses’ physical interaction that can help slow learners. Depending on choice and factors, online and classroom learning both leads us to attain knowledge.
